Introduction

I am passionate about mentoring both children and adults to learn to play string instruments and piano. I began playing violin at age 3; piano at age 4; cello at age 10; and viola as an adult. I have over 36 years of teaching experience and I am Suzuki Association of the Americas certified. Additionally, I am an active performer in the Central Michigan area. I am concertmaster and frequent soloist with the Midland Community Orchestra; a member of the Midland Symphony Orchestra; pit musician for shows at Midland Center for the Arts; soloist and concert organizer at Creative 360 and other area venues; and I provide ensembles and music for weddings, parties, and other events. You can view videos of recent performances on my Facebook page (search for Susan Mercy Violinist). I am providing a special service during the Covid-19 pandemic. If you are having a small wedding ceremony and would still like live music included in your ceremony, I can work with you to either provide socially distanced music at your venue, or music performed live via a Zoom feed, that your Zoom guests would be able to enjoy prior to the service as well as during the ceremony.

Very prompt with responses and flexible for my wife's needs. My wife is a beginner on the violin and had a stroke 7 years ago so this will hopefully help as an enjoyable therapy. I look forward to hearing her first song.

Compliments galore! Susan Mercy organized the music for my son's wedding and cocktail hour in October 2019 with cello, violin and keyboard. She accommodated the bride's request for some chosen songs to be incorporated and Susan weaved together a list of music that perfected the mood for the wedding as well as cocktail hour. Susan promptly answered our many questions throughout the planning process and gave great suggestions. Several wedding guests approached me to comment on how amazing the music was and what a relaxing and romantic atmosphere was created. I look forward to hiring her again for other events because the music was...simply amazing.

Susan Mercy and her partner Jim are very talented and seasoned musicians from the Midland Symphony Orchestra. Susan worked with me every step of the way to compile the perfect playlist for our ceremony. My guests all said how beautiful the music was and Susan's and Jim's talent and experience really took my wedding ceremony to the next level. I had some pretty eclectic song choices and she found and played every single one for me. With Susan on the violin and Jim on the keyboard, you will not be disappointed!

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Lessons are $50/hour. Shorter lessons are $37.50/45 minutes, and $25/half hour. Wedding and event booking fees are provided upon request.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Sign up for music lessons on my site and I will contact you upon receipt of your request. Email me to receive wedding/event booking prices and I will book you from there.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
19 years of private music study, including university level instruction. Suzuki Association of the Americas certification through book 5.
