In May, 2016, we hired Steve to recover and refinish a recliner. He didn't complete it until more than FOUR MONTHS later.
We delivered the chair to him on May 14. However, that day he didn't have time to measure and tell us how much fabric was required. "Tomorrow", he said. Tomorrow turned into a week, with no word from Steve. I had to email him to ask about the necessary yardage. I ordered the fabric and had it sent to him, marked according to his instructions.
At the beginning of July, I thought that after 6 weeks the recliner would be finished soon. However, on July 5 I received a text from Steve asking "where's the fabric"? According to the tracking information, he had signed for the fabric in mid-June.
By August 1, after no further communication from Steve, I again wondered about the progress of our chair. I texted him, and he replied that it should be done "by the end of next week".
Next week came and went with no communication from Steve. On August 18, I inquired again and was assured that Steve could give me "an ETA on Monday for completion hopefully next week". Once again, next week came and went with no sign of Steve or the recliner.
After August 18, I heard nothing more from Steve prior to the FOURTH MONTH "anniversary" on September 14. It was then that I contacted Thumbtack Support. Their prodding miraculously caused the chair to be "finished" in a couple of days.
However, this was not the end of the drama. Steve didn't show up for a 10:00 a.m. appointment scheduled for my husband to pick up the recliner. Steve claimed he'd called, although neither I nor my husband had received a message from or even had a record of a call from Steve. So my husband waited an hour for Steve to return and then wait on another customer, an hour during which a piece fell off the back of the recliner and it was discovered that the reclining mechanism hadn't been properly reassembled.
After 3 hours wasted on a Saturday morning, the chair was reassembled, paid for, and finally brought home. The upholstery is acceptable and the refinishing very good, but I would advise anyone who can't spare their furniture for 1/3 of a year to avoid this company.
