FAQs
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
First, I try to get to know each student by asking them about themselves, their likes and dislikes, hobbies, etc. Second, I ask about their academic/professional goals and the challenges they're facing. When working with children, I discuss the child's goals and struggles with their parents prior to the session, but I still believe it's important to also hear it from the child.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have two bachelor's degrees in journalism and political science, as well as a master's degree in public administration and public policy. I attended an art high school, where I "majored" in creative writing and journalism. I was enrolled in Honors English, AP English, and AP U.S. History throughout high school.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I first began tutoring in college. I worked with students in 7th grade and 3rd grade weekly. For the past three years, I've worked for a variety of companies throughout Laurel and Columbia, helping students of all ages - including adults - with subject-specific work and homework help. So far, I've tutored school-aged students in kindergarten and 3rd, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, and 11th grade.
