Introduction
New for Summer 2024! Nickers for Clickers Horse Training Academy Camp - ages 9 to 15 - 9am to 3pm Monday through Friday - for 11 weeks this summer - sign up for one week at a time - $400/per participant - capped at 8 participants per week EDUCATIONAL: - hands-on science-based horse training every day - learn how to train horses to do ANYTHING using rewards! - activities likely include grooming, discussions of biology, evolution, ethology, learning theory, health/first aid, and more advanced training techniques - skill building is done in small increments, with lots of games to help kids understand the concepts by practicing with each other before practicing with the horses - kids learn to build a training plan to fit each behavior they want to teach: everyone gets to pick a behavior they want to work on, and discover that not all training goes according to plan, and what to do when that happens (problem solving at its best!) FUN: - modern horse training techniques make training FUN because it's all about rewarding the right behavior after setting up the learner for the best response possible - force-free, punishment-free, cooperation-based positive reinforcement techniques are now fully embraced by many animal trainers around the world, including zoo and canine professionals who use it because the learner *wants* to participate, which creates a richly reinforcing experience for *everyone* involved! APPLICABLE TO SCHOOL, HOME, AND OTHER SPECIES - we talk a lot about emotions as they relate to learning, and not just WHY it's important to keep stress and anxiety OUT of the teaching/learning loop, but HOW as well! - learning goes both ways: kids learn while teaching, and horses teach while learning, each continuously discovering a better way to communicate and be clear about what they are trying to accomplish - cooperation and teamwork is inherent to a peaceful partnership: kids learn how to be a good partner by listening and adapting to their partner, every step of the way (great prep for the Real World!) Search for the Heart of Riding and sign up now! Other services: Horses, as beautiful, powerful, intelligent creatures, deserve the best their riders can offer. Most riders are not given the tools to understand why and especially how they need to improve, but I'm setting out to change that. My goal is to make the How and Why of *effective* riding available to ANYONE who wants it. As one of a handful of Accredited Ride With Your Mind Coaches in the US, I can deliver that. I've been studying rider biomechanics for the last 15 years with the world's foremost expert in the field: Mary Wanless, author and coach to several elite riders including Pan Am Gold Medalist and Olympic hopeful Heather Blitz. Have you wanted to try riding but don't want to go to one of those places where you get lumped into a big class with a different instructor every month, or you get tossed up on a horse without much forethought? ... It doesn't have to be that way. Or, have you ever listened to your instructor and thought to yourself "I wonder what that means?", "How am I supposed to do that?" or "I'm trying but I just can't seem to do it, there must be something wrong with me/my horse/the arena/the weather/etc" ... it might be time for a change. ~ ~ Consider trying something new that just might be what you've been missing all this time: come observe a lesson for free before deciding if you want to sign up yourself. ~ ~ Happy trails, Emily

Emily is calm, patient and clearly attuned to her clients and horses. Lessons with Emily are the best part of the week for my son, who struggles with emotional and developmental disabilities.

Emily is an absolute gem! I learned to ride in England in the early 1960's; working student, BHSAI, competed in horse trials, returned to the US - then Pony Club Mom, and then owned two horses, one trained to 2nd Level Dressage. After a break I returned to riding in the spring of 2016 with Emily Osborne, and discovered I really did not know how to ride so my horse could carry me easily and in a healthy way for him. The biomechanics I have begun to learn instantly transform the experience for both me and the horse, and it is magical when I get it! Emily is the most patient, careful, supportive, encouraging teacher I have ever had, and it is always clear that she loves what she does. I can not recommend Heart of Riding highly enough!
