Paul and his crew provided exceptional service for our new windows. He was very responsive and installation was both efficient and thorough. Would highly recommend.

Our decision to purchase windows and siding began nearly 3 years ago. Ever since we moved into our home, it has been a challenge to maintain a comfortable indoor temperature. The installation of an additional HVAC system and ceiling fans throughout the home could never provide an affordable and efficient remedy to the leaky windows and poorly installed siding. Knowing that replacing over 20 windows would be a major expense, we decided early on that it made more sense to have a slightly higher monthly gas & electric bill by running our heating systems longer and harder as opposed to making this very large and one-time expenditure. As the months turned into years, our utility bills continued to reflect a house that was not only inefficient for its size and numbers of users, but one that also outpaced usage among our neighbors. Being that we were the only home in the neighborhood that had an additional HVAC system, I really began to question the validity of these energy reports my utility company was providing month after month. Do they have the right neighborhood? If homes in our neighborhood are anything like ours was before we made the improvements, then they would most certainly be spending more money then us to stay warm in the winter and cool in the summer. In addition, to the persistent breeze originating from each window, cool air could also be felt seeping through the interior walls due to the home’s lack of any wrap/insulation between the siding and the home’s wood exterior. To solidify its reputation as the Most Porous House in the Neighborhood, our home seemed to welcome into our very own living room every neighborhood noise – cars, planes, lawnmowers, children playing, etc. The breaking point finally came this past spring when BWI decided to reroute air traffic as the airport underwent major renovations that lasted the entire summer and with even more work scheduled for next year. This new air traffic pattern was so loud that I thought my house was located in the middle of a runway. On the weekends, planes could be heard flying over our home every 3-5 minutes beginning at 6:00am and lasting until 11:00pm. At this point, I knew a change had to be made and yet I dreaded the whole window shopping process. Over the years we have opened our home to many vendors whose pressure to make the sale often resulted in the entire family being held hostage for several hours. Fortunately, we had also met with a neighbor of ours, Paul Harrison, President of Innovative Home Improvements (IHI), whose company specializes in replacement windows and siding. He came to our home, explained the various types of windows, and worked with the vendor to come up with a very competitive quote for replacing the windows. Throughout the meeting, we never felt pressured or minimized in expressing any of our concerns or questions about the product. Unfortunately, back in 2013 we decided that there were other expenses that were of a higher priority and so we postponed any purchase of windows. At that time, we told Paul that when we decide to purchase windows we would be going with his company. Now this is easier said then done. To make such a declaration one must be mindful of neighborhood dynamics. How could I ever entertain other windows companies coming into our home? Would I have to slip out the back door to avoid making any kind of contact? What if I get the work done and am not happy with the results? All of these questions would have surfaced should I have gone with any of the other companies who had come into our home; however, as a testament to the professionalism, courtesy, and respect that Paul showed us during our initial meeting, as well as, over the years, I knew I could firmly commit to him and his company at some point in the future. Well, this past fall we followed through with our promise and contacted Paul to let him know that we were ready to explore our window options. Furthermore, we decided that it would also make sense to replace our siding which had been improperly installed. When we met with Paul, he recommended a window that was vastly superior to the one we had previously considered. The price quoted for this high quality window with the inclusion of additional window options/features was very close to what we had originally received several years ago. Moving on to siding and the options that were available, it quickly became apparent that the highest quality option offered the most value as the price margins narrow between each option. However, all you have to do is take one look at the 1 ½” vinyl and styrofoam infused sample to realize that there is nothing out there on the market that can rival this product. Unlike traditional vinyl siding that can be cut with a pair of snips, a circular saw is required to modify the dimensions of this siding option. Once the green light was given to go ahead and order the materials and begin installation we anticipated that the project would be completed towards the end of November. Unfortunately, the project was not completed until the end of January. While most people would be extremely upset to see a project fall so far behind schedule, I am grateful for many of these delays. Those delays caused by extreme weather conditions are clearly beyond anyone’s control. However, those delays that were due to correcting builder’ errors in poor workmanship really made me appreciate even more my decision to contract with Paul and IHI. Throughout the installation process, IHI discovered many builder shortcuts which forced IHI to adjust their installation process. Instead of being systematic and efficient in the installation process, IHI was forced into a random and defensive posture to either correct or prevent any interior or structural damage resulting from someone else’s work. As far as those delays caused by extreme weather conditions, I can honestly say that a completion date that extended into February was certainly plausible as there were many days where I was surprised that work was being done under some very harsh temperatures and weather conditions. Again, considering the situation we found ourselves in, I cannot think of a company that I would align myself with that is more equipped to identify and handle the unexpected like Innovative Home Improvements. As soon as the installation was completed, the compliments started pouring in almost immediately. Neighbors keep telling us how nice our home looks and how it really stands out from others on the street. Going into this project we wanted to reduce our energy costs, minimize outside noise, and most importantly feel comfortable in our home. So far, I would say we have reached all of these goals as we are projected to see a healthy cost savings in both our gas and electric usage. In fact, since we had the windows installed the second HVAC has not been turned on for two months!!! Noise has been reduced, but not eliminated. In all fairness, I was quite skeptical to think this would have been even possible based on our location and the amount traffic in the area. I will say that I no longer feel like every neighborhood conversation is taking place in my living room. The two most important takeaways from this project for me are the following: 1. The decision to purchase windows should be made on the notion of comfort vs. cost savings. Time after time I have been told that the windows will pay for themselves. Well, I am fairly young and while I am very happy with the price that was given to me for this project, I am not under false illusion that these 23 windows will pay for themselves any time soon. However, I can honestly say that I have never felt more comfortable in my home than how I have felt these past two months. Being able to go up to any window and not feel some amount of cold air is something we have never experienced in our home. The quality of these windows far exceeds any window that is currently being used in any new construction. Considering that the variance in temperature among the floors of our home was so great that we installed another HVAC system almost 15 years ago into our fairly new home. Now consider the resounding impact of these new windows. Over these past two months with the HVAC system off, there is a mere 1 – 2 degree difference in temperature between the two floors. 2. Choosing the right company. Like most people out there who seek out companies or contractors to do their work, we wanted to find someone we can trust and who will listen to our needs and come up with a solution that makes sense. Furthermore, I would want to do business with someone who looks out for my interests and recognizes a potential problem and is willing to address it versus turning a blind eye. Finally, when I sat down to write this review, I honestly say that I did not know what I could add to the many positive comments from satisfied customers. After much deliberation, I realized that I didn’t need to provide any potential customer with some unique fact or detail about my wonderful experience working with Paul and Innovative Home Improvements. Instead, what should be evident to anyone that reads this review or any sample of these reviews is a level of consistency that Paul and his company display on a daily basis – an honest commitment to excellence by providing their customers with trusted advice and value added solutions.

I usually dread embarking on a home project— the research, finding a good contractor who may or may not answer your call, or even take your project because its scope too small, etc. However, working with Paul and his company was by far the easiest experience I have ever had in my life with a contractor. Our windows were single pane original, and many no longer functioned to open so all needed replacing. I sent an inquiry via Home Advisor just to gauge how much such a project would cost, Paul responded, and it was smooth sailing from there. Paul just strikes the right balance— responsive but not pushy in his communication. He was so patient with my indecisiveness and he and his crew were thorough in completing the job. Paul only selects products of good quality and won’t sell you anything you don’t need just to make more money. I appreciated the flexibility in scheduling the install and final walk through. The installation surprisingly only lasted a day, and any issues (screen with a snag, broken child lock) were quickly and competently addressed. Paul proves that good customer service as well as quality craftsmanship are, in fact, not dead. I now can’t wait to hire Paul again to replace our doors! I really wish I could I select all of the attributes under “What did you like about working with Innovative Home Improvements?” because Paul really does tick all the boxes. Even a year later, when I needed a copy of the contract (as I had misplaced my copy), Paul responded immediately to help me. Paul is truly a gem in the sea of contractors.
