Introduction

Hey there! I'm a Massachusetts (USA)-based drummer, producer/electronic musician, & music educator and have over 15 years experience professionally performing & teaching music to all ages. In addition to teaching privately over the past 15 years, I was the recipient of the "Outstanding Youth Advocate Award" from Berklee College of Music's Community Outreach Dept. in 2014 for teaching at the West End House Boys & Girls Club (Allston, MA), I've also taught at Indian Hill Music School (Littleton, MA, now Groton Hill Music Center in Groton, MA), Boston Public Schools' Counseling & Intervention Center (Roslindale, MA), the Mary Lyon Pilot High School (Brighton, MA), Somerville Public Schools (Somerville, MA), & currently teach at the Boys+Girls Clubs in Leominster and Gardner (MA). I've also given music production workshops at A3E, an international music production conference at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston, MA as well as at music production schools in Istanbul, Turkey (Bilgi University & Galatasaray ITM) an electronic music festival in Guatemala (Cosmic Convergence), and in Wellington, New Zealand (at the Pyramid Club). Additionally, I currently teach students privately throughout the US and abroad online using Skype + Google Meet. I graduated Berklee with Cum Laude honors and with a dual degree - Drum Performance and Electronic Production & Design. In addition to teaching, I have been frequently performing with bands around the U.S., & have performed with internationally acclaimed artists including Nona Hendryx, Simon Shaheen, Richard Devine, & Juno Reactor. I've also performed in 11 countries since 2011 - USA, Canada, Mexico, Cuba, Guatemala, Colombia, Brazil, Ghana, Turkey, New Zealand, and Poland. I do my best to be a caring & thoughtful teacher, finding great joy out of seeing (and hearing) students build musical skills and sharing my knowledge with others. Each student is given a custom lesson plan to help maximize lessons and to help each student be the best musician he/she/they can be! Whether it be drum lessons, music production lessons, and/or music theory lessons, I strive to bring true professionalism and passion to each and every meet up!

Our experience with Josh has been amazing! We bought a package (love the discount with the packages), my so has just done a few lessons and has already made a ton of improvement. Josh is very patient and meets my son where he is at! I highly recommend him!

Josh is such an amazing drum instructor! His passion for drumming and teaching makes every lesson a blast. He is very intuitive and can pin point precisely where you need help as a drummer. He has helped me break some bad habits in addition to helping me form good habits. Moreover, Josh gives detailed notes from every lesson. It's so helpful to have my progress documented and receive a structured drum regiment. He also helps you build confidence in the "process" which makes it a lot more fun to practice. I really enjoy working with him and would recommend him to anyone who wants to take their drumming to the next level!

I had a pretty great first lesson in music production with Josh. I learned a lot in a short period of time and his approach was hands-on, which I appreciated. He also brought an interface for us to use, and offered to use his copy of Ableton Live, gestures that were unnecessary for a musician like me, but would doubtless be appreciated by anyone just venturing into the world of production.

Josh is an excellent teacher whose drum playing skills and general musical knowledge are impeccable. I started lessons with Josh this past summer to try and pick up a different instrument from guitar and improve my rhythmic abilities and he helped me progress a great deal on the drums. He has a great ear which he has developed from years of playing and which he keeps sharp by playing on a regular basis. He uses his very keen ears to pick up on the most minute details of your playing which will help you develop as a detail oriented player. I like Josh's teaching style, he's a very encouraging person and will celebrate your progress every step of the way, but he isn't afraid to tell you what you need to hear in order to improve as a player. All in all my experience with Josh has been great and I would 100% recommend him to a player of any skill level.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
1/2 hour lesson: $55 45min lesson: $65 1-hour lesson: $75 2-hour lessons (applicable for music production lessons): $140 *There is a travel fee for in-home lessons (based on location) Package deals are also available! Save 5, 10, or 15% from purchasing packages of 5, 10, or 15 lessons respectively!
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I like to first get a sense of the student’s and parent’s (where applicable) goals for the lessons. In addition, I like to know what type of music the student likes and what previous musical background he/she/they has. I then plan to work on building/refining foundation and show the many different techniques I've developed over the years to lead students to the highest level of success possible!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I took 5 years of piano lessons from age 7-12 at Indian Hill Music School, took 11 years of private drum lessons (pretty consistently on a weekly basis), and graduated Berklee College of Music Cum Laude honors with 2 degrees - one being Drum Performance, and the other being Electronic Production & Design. I've also been trained in music education/as a music teacher through my experiences at Indian Hill Music School (Littleton, MA), The West End House Boys & Girls Club (Allston, MA), the Boston Public Schools' Counseling & Intervention Center in Roslindale, MA, Mary Lyon Pilot High School (Brighton, MA), and Somerville Public Schools (Somerville, MA), as well as privately teaching for the past 15 years.
