- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Once you arrive at my home studio you'll be warmly welcomed and ushered into my dining room (my studio is in my home) where we'll sit and chat for a bit about Reiki and your reasons for seeking a Reiki Healing Session. I'll ask you to read and sign a release form that basically states that you understand I'm not a medical professional. Then we'll proceed to an adjoining room where my Reiki table (massage-type table) resides. By now you'll have noticed that relaxing music has been playing and that there is a desserty-like scent coming from scented candles. If you prefer no candles for whatever reason, then I won't light them. Just let me know ahead of time that you'd prefer no scented candles. During a typical Reiki Session you'll lie down on my comfortable Reiki table while remaining fully clothed. You'll be asked to remove your shoes and to turn down the sound of your cellphone. At first you may lie on your back while resting your head on a pillow. A bolster may be placed beneath your knees to relieve any stress on your lower back. You may also cover up with a sheet and perhaps a blanket. About halfway through the session you may be asked to turn over onto your stomach. This time the bolster will be placed under your ankles and you can rest your face in a soft headrest which resembles a doughnut. If you are not at all comfortable in any of these positions, I'm more than willing to be flexible and, between the two of us, we'll come up with a plan so that you'll be comfortable. Just to let you know ... a Reiki Session can also be performed while you are sitting in a chair or a wheelchair or wherever you are, even if you are home or in a hospital bed. Reiki energy can travel through casts, bandages, cloth, wood, bulletproof vests, and other materials! Throughout your session, I will gently place my hands on or just above selected areas on the front and back of your body, thus allowing the Reiki energy to flow into your system. Private areas will not be touched and, if you prefer, I needn't touch you at all and instead I can hover my hands above you. Just let me know if that is your preference. Reiki will be effective whether or not I touch you. I may concentrate on certain areas, as requested by you or as determined during your session … or perhaps I will focus on a particular issue that you and I have previously discussed and agreed upon. A session generally lasts 60 minutes (or perhaps a bit longer or shorter) and often begins and ends with a brief discussion. It is not unusual for a client to request a session lasting 30, 45, 60, or 90 minutes ... or even 2 hours! During your session you may sense tingling, pleasant warmth, pulsing, a sense of lightness, other sensations, or none of the above. You may visualize colors or other images. You may experience such deep relaxation that you fall into a restful sleep and then later awaken feeling peaceful and refreshed ... in other words, you may feel absolutely wonderful! You'll be gently told when the session has ended. You'll sit up and be offered a glass of water as you're likely to be thirsty following your session. Also, it's a good idea to drink more water than usual for a day or two following your session. We may chat briefly as we drink our water, or you may prefer to sit quietly. Then we'll return to the dining room and you'll put your shoes back on. We may chat a bit about your session, your experience, your perceptions. At this time you may want to schedule another session, and then you'll take your leave, feeling warm and nurtured.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
As a nationally-certified and retiredspeech/language therapist who has spent most of my professional career (31+ years) in educational settings, I have years of experience teaching others. Additionally, I am a Certified Reiki Master Teacher, who has taught Reiki. Over the years I have taken the following Usui Reiki Classes: Reiki I, Reiki II, Reiki III / Advanced Healing Techniques, and Reiki Master Teacher. And I have taken the following Jikiden Reiki Classes: Shoden and Okuden. As a Reiki Practitioner, I have provided many Reiki Healing Sessions to clients in my home, in their homes, and elsewhere. I have volunteered with various groups, offering Reiki at health fairs, holiday fairs, and events for military veterans. Additionally, I have regularly volunteered at two major Boston hospitals (Brigham & Women's Hospital and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center) where I've provided Reiki Healing Sessions to inpatients, outpatients, their visitors, and staff. Thus, I have experience with teaching and, also, with providing Reiki. I guess it's only natural that I would eventually end up teaching Reiki. I love it all!
