I contacted Chess Engineering because I needed a plot plan required for a permit for our home renovation. Paul got back to me quickly and suggested that the original surveyor can help us better because they had the original plot plan. I really appreciated his help.

I contacted Chess Engineering to prepare a plot plan required for a permit for an addition to my house. I got a prompt response from them with a quote. They even suggested that I contact the original surveyor which ended up being cheaper because they had the original plot plan at hand. I will happily recommend them to anyone.

They responded to my request for an elevation survey in less than an hour and scheduled the job for a week later. They showed up on time and did what they said they would do. I highly recommend them.

Believe the reviews. I questioned the exorbitantly high price I was quoted and was told to "buy 4 stakes and do it yourself". Disrespectful, rude, condescending and overpriced. Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere.

Details: Boundary or title dispute • Mark corners

Chess Engineering, LLC's reply
This person didn’t hire me and is only calling me “rude” because I didn’t jump at his offer to do the job at less than half the estimate than I provided. Here is our correspondence word for word: Him (after a quote): That is a great deal of money for 4 metal stakes on a residential size lot. Are you sure you are quoting me for the right thing? Me: The cost is for more than merely for 4 metal stakes. If that's all you think you're paying for, you could buy 4 stakes and set them on your corners yourself. If you want to pay a licensed professional to research you and your neighbors' property records to determine where boundaries are and mark them, that's the quote. I'm quoting you based on my past experience with residential surveys in the greater Boston area. I've had residential stakeouts cost as little as $1000 but have had some over $4000. I gave you the average range of most jobs. There's far more that goes into a boundary survey than the final setting of the stakes which would be apparent if your neighbor disagreed with the result and took us both to court

FAQs

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

If you're requesting a quote for Land Surveying, in order to get an accurate fixed quote, the more information we get from you the better. If possible, please identify what it is you're doing and what you need done. For example, are you building an addition to your home? Do you want your property line staked on your property? Are you paying flood insurance? The more information we have, the better we can help.
