My daughter and I both took music lessons with Malena. I was an adult piano student and my daughter took piano, voice, and clarinet as a preteen and teen. I appreciated the comprehensive education I got. I’d never had the opportunity to add the music theory I’d never studied before. My daughter loved being able to explore new instruments and styles that interested her.

Malena has a passion for music and a passion for children that combines in the perfect way for an amazing music teacher. She is patient and kind. She is encouraging and affirming. She loves her students, and responds to the individual idiosyncrasies of each child to come up with the best learning plan for them as they are. She has the patience of a saint. From a business/parent side she is organised, and responsive, and you always know where you stand. Would thoroughly recommend for lessons.

Malena's patience, decades of experience, and adaptability means she can mold each lesson to each student's present needs. Every time I come across a lesson, song, or technique that feels frustrating or confusing, she finds an innovative way to tackle it or explain it! It took me 14 years after my childhood lessons to commit to learning piano again, and then it was incredibly touch to find someone who offered lessons outside of the standard 9-5 work week for a reasonable rate. Not only does Malena offer flexible times for lessons, but her rates are totally feasible, and she's even more flexible now with the option of video lessons. If you've been considering piano lessons, I can't recommend Malena enough.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Monthly Tuition for Weekly Lessons - 30 minutes: $150 monthly - 45 minutes: $200 monthly - 60 minutes: $250 monthly - Group 60 minutes: $100 monthly (4 minimum)
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I require a free 30 minute trial lesson to ensure a good fit between student and teacher. At this lesson we will discuss your goals, dreams, desires, abilities, experiences, and needs. At the end, we will decide if you want to continue looking for a better fit or we will schedule ongoing lessons at a convenient time for both of us. Tuition will also be discussed, including whether or not you qualify for discounts or scholarships.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I studied under Peggy McAdam from 1984 to 1991, learning piano and teaching techniques.
