- How did you get started doing this type of work?
My journey began as a high school student looking for a way to help support my family of 8 siblings. I was always curious about computers and programming and dabbled with new technologies and projects. I had an idea, can I help my family while learning this skill? So I typed "software jobs" in my browser's Google search bar. I was overwhelmed with thousands of jobs requiring many different skills and responsibilities. I knew at 15 that this was what I wanted to do. So I scrapped together a template in Microsoft Word and began to add words, knowing I did not have much experience. Rejection after rejection brought my morale low. I was still applying to dozens and hundreds of jobs with the familiar email: "Thanks for applying; we are considering other candidates." Then I had an idea. I decided to try something else. Instead of highlighting my meager and almost non-existent experiences, I worked on writing a story right on top of my resume, explaining my past and the bright future I had imagined in technology and business. Week after week, still no luck. Until finally, one night, I remember sending my application to a Ph.D. student at MIT's lab. I remember praying and asking my family to pray for me to land a role. Several days later, he asked me to interview, and I got the role! This is how it all began. Year after year, in college and my professional life, I was able to update my meager blank resume to an emotional story that resonated with hiring managers. And year after year, I landed roles at the top software companies. My friends seeing my success, came to me and asked for help with their own resumes, and I was able to study their past and craft a compelling story of their potential and evidence of skills in their resumes. To this date, I have reviewed dozens of professionals' experiences, characters, and potentials to create the same opportunity for them that I had at 15. This is an experience that I treasure and look forward to with each type of client—ensuring that I truly understand their past and future destination and convey their bright potential and expertise to the hiring managers.
