FAQs
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
My bachelor's degree is in elementary education with additional certifications in math, English, and social studies through 9th grade. I have two master's degrees, one in educational psychology from a school of education and one from a school of behavioral sciences. In addition, I'm ABD in a PhD program; that is, I fulfilled all the requirements for a PhD except a finished dissertation project. I've spent most of my life in school, so this has helped keep me current with knowledge in my field; moreover, I spend a great deal of time reading journals, books, and scholarly articles on the Internet relating to the fields of education and psychology. I am constantly studying!
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
After my second year of college, I tutored remedial reading and mathematics for the Shawnee Mission School District. I worked with elementary students. My supervisors noted my extreme patience with the students as well as my desire to get to the bottom of their learning challenges. After that summer experience, I decided to become a teacher!
- What types of customers have you worked with?
Over the years, I've typically worked with students with low self-confidence and struggling with particular academic subjects such as math, reading, and writing. My goals are always to greatly improve their skills and their self-confidence.
