Music is my life, always was, always will be. Music is a part of every one’s life in one way or another. Learning the Piano is a wonderful experience that you'll enjoy. I do enjoy teaching the young students as they experience music for the first time. Also love working with adults as many of them wish they had learned as a child.... but, it’s never too late to start. I've had students in their 80's. I offer Piano/Keyboard Lessons for beginners, intermediate and advanced students. Age range starting 5 years old and up. I have a pretty full schedule throughout the year, with currently a couple of opens. I teach classical, Jazz, Popular type of music. Including improvisation and arranging. Also offer assistance in learning music software programs, Finale notation, Cubase sequencing Audio recording, and Band in A Box to name a few programs. Audio recording for Cd demos to full albums, Voice overs etc. Yamaha Electronic and Acoustic Pianos in the studio. Also, have over 30 years of experience performing at Restaurants, Banquets and experience in playing at church. Been Music Director at St Symphorosa Catholic Church in Chicago from 2000-2018, and now Director at Sacred Heart Parish in Palos Hills since November 2018.

Piano lessons with John are great. He stays at my pace of learning. He is kind and patient but challenges me to do better each lesson. He studio is professional and has everything you need to help you progress further with your piano playing as well as music theory.

My son has taken piano lessons with John for several years. He is an excellent teacher for students of all levels and is great with kids. My son also composes his own music and John has helped him with this, resulting in some great arrangements and recordings. His studio is high tech and I highly recommend!

Very dedicated piano teacher. Though time is always an issue because of work and family, John helped me to continue follow my dream of playing my favorite music. As an adult student, it is often difficult to find time to practice assigned lessons. John taught me how to read notes and showed me techniques to practice in order to master my music piece. Tuition fee is reasonable and affordable. He is well equipped with technology which is very important for a teacher to have in order to meet learning needs of a student like me.

All four of our children have studied piano with John O'Keefe. Our younger two children are still students of John's. Our older son is now studying to be a music educator in college and our second oldest son has achieved a very high level of proficiency and musicianship at the piano. I attribute our children's success in music to beginning piano instruction at an early age with Mr. O'Keefe.John has high expectations for his students within the welcoming and relaxed atmosphere of his own home. The location is nearby for us, but easily accessible from any suburban area. His rates are affordable and fair. Furthermore, the times that John offers for lessons has worked well with our children's busy schedules.Not only do John's students learn to play the piano, but he also helps them learn music theory in a sequential format that helps them to understand how music works. Finally, our children have always looked forward to and have participated in the annual recital that is very well organized and enjoyable.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I’m one of the most reasonable teachers around, even after raising the tuition in 2018 I’m still very reasonable. Tuition is monthly and only the books needed are extra. No fees. Students do need a piano to practice on daily, a keyboard could work to start on but after a year or so should move into an electronic piano or acoustic piano.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Depending on the age and experience the approach can vary, but either if a new student (first lesson) or experience player making the client feel comfortable and at ease. Not to judge .... I’m here to help.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I started with Piano lessons myself at age 7, studied with various teachers over 30 years. Studied Music Theory, Composition and Arranging, at Daley College. I’ve played in church since I was in Grammar school. Now Music Director at a Catholic Church, St. Symphorosa Parish near midway Airport. Performed for many years at fine dining Restaurants, one up north and Nikos south side in Bridgeview, IL. In addition to that many private weddings anniversaries and parties.
