My experience spans top law firms and in-house counsel for a private equity fund, where I built a strong foundation in corporate transactions, commercial litigation, and employment law. While I continue to focus on these areas, my practice has expanded to include real estate disputes, entertainment law, family law, and criminal defense. Originally from Charleston, Illinois, I grew up in a household dedicated to academics and athletics—my father was a Division I baseball coach at Eastern Illinois University for 22 years, and my mother was a professor and director in the business college. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Finance and Bachelor of Arts in Language Studies (Spanish & French focus) from Indiana State University, followed by my law degree from the University of Illinois College of Law in 2014. I am also a graduate and member of the Justice Entrepreneurs Project, a small firm incubator program of the Chicago Bar Foundation, which supports innovative, community-driven legal practices. Beyond my legal practice, I am an adjunct professor at the University of Illinois Chicago College of Law, where I mentor and teach the next generation of legal professionals. Subject: Request for Assistance with Communication Issue Hi Thumbtack Team, I hope this message finds you well. I'm reaching out to seek your assistance regarding a communication issue with one of the professionals we hired, Abigail Schmidt. On August 9th, the professional indicated they would email us to finalize our letter, but we have yet to receive any communication. Despite our multiple attempts to reach out via calls, texts, and emails, we have not received a response. We have been working with Abigail since March 2023. There’s been multiple issues with communication however now we are experiencing zero communication. It's concerning as clients to be left without closure, especially after paying a retainer without receiving the full service. My pricing is flexible and project/case dependent. I am happy to work with clients to find the right pricing structure for any matter.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I recommend an initial consultation with any new client to discuss their matter and decide whether I am a good fit. If I am a good fit, then we discuss a reasonable pricing structure and execute an engagement agreement prior to me working on the matter. If we decide that I am not a good fit, I have a huge network of lawyers in the Chicagoland area that I am happy to refer you to.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I received my bachelor's degree in finance and language studies from Indiana State University in 2011 and my J.D. from the University of Illinois College of Law in 2014. I have worked at big and midsize law firms and as in-house counsel for private equity funds giving me a wide range of experience.
