FAQs
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I always begin by getting to know the student's history with the cello, their motivations for playing and assessing their playing level. I believe in approaching the cello in a wholesome, holistic way which includes getting to know each student's interests and motivations as well as assessing their abilities.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I received my bachelors degree in Cello Performance from the University of Rochester's Eastman School of Music in 2015 where I studied with Professors Steven Doane and Alan Harris. During summertimes, I attended numerous reputable summer music institutes including the Bowdoin International Music Festival, the Boston University Tanglewood Institute, the Pierre Monteux School and the Sewanee Summer Music Festival. I began studying the cello in 2007 at the University of Louisville School of Music and went on to attend DuPont Manual's Youth Performing Arts High School as an orchestral cello major and graduated in 2011. Additionally, I am a TEFL/TESOL certified teacher and completed a 190 hour intensive teacher training program at the International TEFL Academy in Chicago IL.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
My journey as a cello teacher is truly an extension of my studies as a student of the cello. I have spent 14 years intensely studying the cello and have been incredibly fortunate to have worked with outstanding teachers, who have provided me with not only the knowledge and skills required of cello playing, but with a strong understanding and sense of the qualities and attributes that make an effective and quality teacher.
