James has been my trainer for almost 2 months. We meet twice a week at my home gym and I'm very happy with the experience! He cares about my progress and pushes me each time, but never pushing me past a point that I can't or shouldn't attempt. The progress has been gradual and steady, which is exactly what I needed to stay engaged. I really feel like James knows his stuff, and when he doesn't, he looks into it. For example, I have a spinal fusion and James did the appropriate research to work with me safely and to help me make the most of my limitations. We talk about nutrition and he practices what he preaches. James will hold you as accountable as you need. For me, I needed someone to come to my house, assign me homework, etc, and that's what he does for me. I'd really recommend working out with James - it's such a positive experience!

James Smetzer is an excellent trainer--knowledgable, competent and professional. He assessed my needs and tailor-makes my program. James is personable and of sterling character. Simply put, James is the best trainer I’ve ever had. He provides mastery knowledge of health and physical fitness along with a dedication and individualized focus to each of his clients. What I like most about his workout routines is how creative and non-routine they are. He designs multifunctional, challenging workouts that are fun and always changing. Along with his extensive skill-sets as a personal trainer, James brings an upbeat attitude and sincere passion to each training session. I have been lucky and very happy to have James as my trainer for the past three years.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

    Every two years I renew my certification, and redo my CPR cert.

  • What types of customers have you worked with?

    Each and every workout are tailored to meet the needs of every client i work with, the workouts include functional and dynamic exercises that challenge my clients but also puts them in a position to progress and better themselves. I always perform an initial fitness assessment with each client that includes body-fat analysis, circumference measurements and a series of exercises to test muscular endurance, cardiovascular endurance and core strength. I also perform re-assessments every 6-8 weeks to monitor progress.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

    When Looking for a personal trainer, make sure you ask the right question. 1. Is the trainer educated and does He/She have experience as a trainer? 2. If you're working with a independent personal trainer He/She should carry their own Liability insurance. 4. Read the reviews and do your research on this trainer.
