FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I have what are generally considered to be low fees for cases that settle without filing a lawsuit. I usually charge only 25% to settle a case without filing suit. This is because the amount of time to work up a case is considerably higher when you have to file a lawsuit. I generally charge up to 40% in fees to file suit. In other words, the fee gap between filing suit and not is quite large. I think this is helpful to the client, because it makes it easier to the client to avoid having to file a lawsuit if the insurance company is reasonable in their pre-suit offer.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
The first thing I do is talk to them on the phone about their case and get all the details. After that, I arrange an in person meeting so we can get to know each other face to face. From there, it can vary wildly. I'm going to be more involved in cases where my clients don't have health insurance and are relying on me to get them into doctors. If they have insurance and going to their in network providers, I take a step back a little. Truthfully, there isn't a ton I can do while the client is still treating. I take that time to amass evidence through open records requests and talking to witnesses, but otherwise the case doesn't really take off until the client gets to the end of their treatment.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I graduated law school in 2006 and have been a solo attorney almost ever since. However, I have never practiced alone in the sense that I'm heavily involved with listserves, and the Plaintiff's bar. Therefore, I am constantly engaged in daily continuing education from my colleagues.
