I've never taken French, however, always had the desire to learn the language. I've tried learning using apps for a few years now but due to lack of foundation, I've not been very successful. My first class with David was great and helped me learn lot of basics. Looking forward to the upcoming classes.

I had not taken a French class in nearly ten years, however, in order to further my degree French II was required. I knew I needed a French tutor right away and utilized Thumbtack's service to obtain information on tutors located in my area. Several tutors contacted me, but David's background and previous stellar reviews caught my eye. We discussed briefly what would be expected from him with regards to the course material as well as my lack of knowledge on the fundamentals. My French was rusty to say the least and I would need intense tutoring sessions to refresh my memory on a subject that I hadn't taken since my first year of college many years prior. David was great! He was professional and knowledgeable. We started at the basics and he walked me through each rule applicable to the French language. His explanation on basic concepts was extremely helpful, as he explained them in a way that helped me better understand sentence structure, gender agreements, passé composé, infinitives, regular/irregular verbs, time, numbers, basic vocabulary words, etc. He exhibited a great deal of patience with my lack of understanding and made sure I understood the material before moving on to the next lesson. David worked around my busy school and full-time work schedule and even traveled quite a bit of distance to meet me. My current grade in the class is a 95. There is no doubt in my mind, that had I not employed David's services, I may not have been able to pass the class. Not only did I pass, but I received an A! Nothing short of a miracle! I would recommend his services to anyone in need of French help, whether it be early french students or those that are pursing a more difficult French curriculum. I am truly grateful for David and his wealth of knowledge. His teaching style and applied techniques truly made a difference for me.

David Strand is an excellent tutor of French. David was very prompt in returning my initial inquiry about taking lessons in beginning French and he was very flexible, thus allowing me to set up appointment times for lessons working around my work schedule. David mentioned he had a background in teaching and along with his being fluent in the French language made the learning process very enjoyable. I would highly recommend him as a language tutor.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
The first time, I generally assess and evaluate where the student's level is at. Then I get started right away in terms of teaching the content. I always ask students at the end of each session which part(s) of today's lesson worked well the most as well as did you enjoy the most?

Bachelor of Arts in French and English from Northern Michigan University. 25 years' experience in private tutoring.
