Introduction

I have been teaching young children to read for 25 years. I specialize in phonics and reading comprehension. I owned my own tutoring business in Palo Alto, Ca, for ten years before retiring. I now teach young children remotely. I tutor all elementary school subjects. I teach writing (structure, and style} at any level. We are very grateful for many years to have a tutor like Ms Barbara for our 9 year old son. He is consistently doing an hour a day most days and performing at or above his grade level. Our son hasn’t had to enter into a school building yet and it’s heavily because of her methods and experience. She provides a great value for her rate and I wouldn’t want anyone else schooling our son. My son doesn’t dread school time with her as she helps your child to be excited to learn. We absolutely fell in love with Ms. Barb from the start. My daughter can be quite a handful and standoffish to strangers, yet took to her like a family friend she knew for years. It was very difficult to get her to even try reading anything and from day one Ms. Barb had found a crack in the door. We would have kept going for years but unrelated circumstances had us end the tutoring. I recommend her to everyone though.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
My inititial visit is free. I will assess your needs and let you know about my programs. If the lessons are to be on line, I will still do an initial assessment free of charge.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
We can schedule a meeting on line through Skype or Zoom. My initial consultation is free. We can set up a schedule of tutoring sessions at that time, if we find we are a good match.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Bachelor of Science degree. I have taught in private schools for several years, and I have tutored over 25 years and have had my own tutoring business for 14 years.
