FAQs
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Since my adult students may already have an idea of the styles of music that interest them, I begin by formulating a method plan to fit their musical interests and goals. The IReal Pro app is used to provide backing tracks for all written assignments. For my younger beginners, the Hal Leonard Method is my typical approach. The Hal Leonard "Easy Pop Melodies," are then added, which is a great way to apply the note-reading skills learned in the method books. "IReal Pro" is used for all backing tracks.
- What types of customers have you worked with?
I’ve worked with students ranging from the ages of 5 to 90. Although children from the age range of 5 to 10 are typically better off starting on piano, guitar can be fine at that age as well, depending on the student. And you’re never too old to learn how to play an instrument or learn something new. I live by this philosophy, myself!
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Always hire an instructor who keeps you accountable to play in time and who keeps a record of your current practice speeds. Whether you’re working on reading notes from a method book, learning scales and improvisation, learning to play your favorite songs or practicing chord progressions, time is everything in music. Starting by playing accurately at a slow speed and gradually working up is the key to mastery.
