I asked this contractor to come buy, get measurements, and give me an estimate to do the job. Long story short, he gave his price of $450 & I told him I was also getting another estimate. He later messaged me and said he could do the job for $300.00; we hire him. He comes back 3-4 days later and does a second measurement. Well, guess what? He measured wrong the 1st time...so now he would need to add a few pieces to the cut-out already in the quartz countertop (for my drop-in stove). He said he did not have he pieces and would have to come back. He comes back a week later and does the job. I ask, "How do I pay you?" and he responds, "I'm going to have to let you know I'm going to have to charge you extra because of the extra work to glue in the pieces. " I informed him he knew that before doing the job, he had to glue extra pieces, so why wait until the job is done to increase the price? He said, "Are you really crying over $80.00? Do you know how much it costs to fill up my V8?". My point is to be transparent with your prices and let people know up front that you are going to add fees to the original quote. Secondly, it is not the fault of the customer that you did not measure correctly the first time, resulting in you coming back 2 additional times.
