Introduction

I have been teaching music for over 35 years. I teach a variety of subjects in many musical genres. Every student is different, so I don't take a one-size-fits-all approach. Instead, I use my broad experience and knowledge to build a unique program that works best for the particular student. It's very individualized. Many students prefer to select their own songs that they would like to learn. Other students want to focus on their creative skills or other aspect. Some are interested in covering many different musical subjects or genres. Still, others are interested in technical improvement, or prefer a more academic or structured approach. I am very effective in teaching all of these areas and methods, so I have an amazing and diverse variety of students as a result. All of this helps to keep my students highly motivated, and my retention rate for students is very high. For beginning students, I teach acoustic guitar lessons, electric guitar lessons, classical guitar lessons, singing lessons, vocal coaching, bass guitar lessons, ukulele lessons, keyboard lessons and others. I also teach intermediate and advanced students who want to focus on their musical creativity and expression. Those subjects include music composition, music recording and production, music theory and many other specialty subjects in all genres of music. I've written countless works in many genres including rock, jazz, indie, alternative, country, pop, classical, symphonic, electronic and others. So, I have a lot of experience in just about any genre that students are interested in. This really helps me to help my students focus their study, or to cover a variety of different goals students may have. I really enjoy the wide variety of students who come to me having so many different musical interests and goals. That is so rewarding to me. Every student is so unique. Some students come to me to focus on a particular goal, while others come to broaden their music. I relate well with all age groups and work with students from all walks of life. I enjoy working with students to discover the best individual approach for them, that motivates them the most to want to learn, in a way that works best for the student. I have a great passion for teaching! I've been doing it for almost my entire life.

I am 34 years old and I never had any musical inclinations, but I always wanted to learn how to the play guitar. Ten months ago I decided to start. After some research online I saw that Bob had really good reviews. I have to admit that I was afraid it was going to be a cookie cutter guitar lesson like you see on YouTube but I am glad that I was wrong. Not only did Bob designed the lesson to my taste of music but he always has a way to teach me stuff that was very related to my experience in life. He will always have good exercises that helped me with push through learning chords and songs. Bob is a masterful teacher and has the ability to listen and understand where I am in my learning curve, adjust his lessons to my skill level, and more importantly helped me a lot when I am frustrated and stuck. Bob helped me to overcome the inner critic that had held me back, by identifying and encouraging the musical ability in me. I am very grateful for that. If you want to learn music on a deep and intuitive level, Bob is the right choice.

My daughter decided she wanted to learn guitar at the age of 14. From the first lesson, Bob has been clear, concise, encouraging, motivating and serious about my daughter’s progress on the guitar. Over the past few months, Bob has also expanded into voice lessons with my daughter. Bob displays a strong passion for guitar playing and teaching and his in-depth understanding of the subject comes across in his lessons. Bob’s lessons are very well thought out. My daughter has been taking lessons with Bob for almost two years. I can look back and see that each lesson has clearly built on the last, and nearly every week I am amazed at the things that she can play and how easy it has been by taking incremental steps to improve. Bob also does a great job of curtailing the lessons to artists that my daughter listens to and enjoys. This definitely keeps her interest and motivation. Bob pays very close attention to every little thing she does to make sure she is doing things the right way. He is especially attuned to technical issues to prevent roadblocks along the way which can lead to plateaus and frustration. Bob's clear gift for teaching and his amazing talent on the guitar are a wonderful combination for a guitar teacher. I would highly recommend anyone who is serious about improving on guitar both technically and harmonically to schedule lessons with Bob. I’m also looking forward to seeing how far my daughter will advance in voice!

Out of all of the music instructors I've had, Bob Mann is the best. I've studied guitar, bass, and voice under Bob and have seen an immense improvement in my skills. No matter what you're struggling with, he always has tricks up his sleeve with easy to understand explanations and drills. As someone trying his hand at songwriting, Bob is immensely helpful. His critiques and feedback are just what's needed to take any project to the next level and his expert-level production skills make it sound like the pros. I strongly recommend Bob to anyone considering taking lessons in these areas.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
For single lessons, $25 for half-hour lessons (usually for kids under 10,) or $35 for 45 minute lessons, or $40 for one-hour lessons typically for pre-teen and up. I also have many multi-lesson discount plans. Beginning students for guitar usually take lessons once a week, while voice students and all others may take lessons more frequently.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I discuss at length with new students to determine their musical goals and discover what methods would motivate them the most to reach those goals. For guitar or voice students, this may include listening to the students own musical selections to determine the most vital elements they should explore to reach their goals. Beginning guitar students are taught the various musical structures, chords or scales that apply to their direct genres of interest, as these may apply to their project songs or goals. Some students want to explore music reading, others do not. Some students prefer structure, others are visual learners. So I work with the student to determine the best approach for them. For voice students, a range analysis is performed, with focus on student strengths and weaknesses in elements such as pitch control, breathing techniques, tone and articulation which applies to their project songs.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have received decades of professional instruction for guitar, voice, composition, production and music theory. I currently write and pitch music for TV, film, video games and other venues. I've also received numerous awards in rock guitar competitions, and performed in countless bands and concerts over the years.
