As a parent, it’s incredibly difficult to watch your child struggle with reading. It impacts their performance in every academic subject, as well as their confidence and self-esteem. It’s known that 50-65% of kids need explicit, systematic reading instruction, but most students do not receive this. Many popular reading programs focus on using picture or context clues, which research has shown to be very ineffective.
Your child can learn to read with high quality instruction designed for accelerated gains. Reading skills are best taught by starting with simple concepts. Kids make major breakthroughs when: 1) learning to build simple, real words, 2) segmenting and blending letter-sounds within words, 3) reading decodable text for practice, and 4) learning flexible strategies.
Reading instruction without complicated rules creates a MUCH EASIER LEARNING PATH, resulting in greater success and much lower frustration. Kids stay motivated with engaging interactive materials and content-driven games. Lessons in fluency, spelling, and morphology (e.g. prefixes, suffixes and word roots) further improve reading decoding, vocabulary and comprehension.
I’ve tested kids for dyslexia and other reading/writing disorders for over 20 years, and I’ve watched only a small percentage make significant progress since effective instruction is not the norm. I pivoted to reading intervention by receiving training in evidence-based literacy instruction that incorporates the most up-to-date research. I have much experience in understanding individual strengths and weaknesses, which helps me to develop a successful program for each child.
