Seiji Yamashita Jazz Piano

Hi, I am a working jazz pianist and recent graduate from the prestigious Eastman School of Music. I have a background in jazz and classical music and I specialize in jazz music, pop music, and gospel music. I teach beginner to advanced piano and music theory to accompany your piano skills as well. One of the big problems in learning piano is that the teaching methods used aren’t practical. The songs you want to play, the songs on the radio or pop songs aren’t taught. More specifically, the skills you need to play pop or jazz or to compose aren’t taught. Personally, I love helping to bridge the gap between the traditional training in piano fundamentals - which we cover and solidify- with the theory and skills needed to compose and to play jazz and pop. I especially love helping pianists wanting to explore different styles and become more interdisciplinary. Anyone can play piano and go very far. I’ll be there with you to challenge you and give you exactly what you need to not only play piano and the songs you love to listen to, but to also give you the tools to compose and improvise. I promise you that the way you view the instrument will change. I will travel for lessons or they can be done from my apartment at U Street corridor.
