Masonry Solutions LLC's reply
Hi Thomas, I am sorry to hear you are dissatisfied with our company and I would like to try to clarify some things. The job we gave you an estimate for was evaluated by pictures that you provided us with, and it was given verbally over the phone. I think that had we gone out to your home or even sent you a written proposal with what we intended to do, you may have felt differently. To clarify what was included in our price, the job details are as followed: Repair firebox floor: • Supply and install dust protection in area of fireplace. • Remove all mortar from joints between every single brick to ensure there is no bad contact between old and new mortar. • Repair opening in floor of firebox for ash dump so as to fit ash dump door without gaps. • Clean all Firebrick of creosote with One Shot Creosote and Soot Remover to alleviate the current high-risk status for combustion. Allow to dry for 12 hours to ensure an ideal environment for housing a fire safely. As well as to provide an ideal surface area for new mortar and the longevity of new joints. • Fill all joints between firebricks with high heat flame retardant mortar. • Remove all dust protection and clean any debris created during repair in the entire surrounding area. This process, while not expensive in materials, does require quite a bit of labor. This process took 2 days for 2 men to complete. (Based on other completed fireplace projects.) Giving this job a total of 32 hours of labor, performed by a masonry Foremen and an assistant. This figure includes travel time, purchasing masonry materials, and the cleanup of your home. So, you can see why it would take longer, and incur a higher cost to have this project done by anyone other than yourself. Also please keep in mind, you reached out to a professional company. We have staff to answer any and all questions 8 hours a day, 5 days a week; in other words, we are a contractor you can always get a hold of. We are also fully insured for workman’s compensation and liability, so God forbid, something happened when we were in your home you would not assume any responsibility. For example, if we came and did not use flame retardant mortar or did not clean all the creosote out of your fireplace and a fire got out of control, we would assume responsibility. Finally, although the price we quoted you was more than you wanted to spend, I hope I have brought the true value of our services to light and achieved a clear understanding of what we were offering you. Thank you for your interest in our company. Please let us know if you ever need anything.
