FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I base my quote on the size and age of the house, as well as the number of bedrooms and bathrooms. For a multi-unit building I take into account the number of units and the number of heating systems.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I hold a B.S degree in civil engineering (structural option) from WPI in Worcester, MA. I was trained in home inspection techniques by one of the most experienced home inspectors in Western Massachusetts. I worked for him for 7 years and performed almost 1300 inspections. I was a licensed septic system installer for 25+ years.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I had been a custom home builder for years until a business slow down hit. I found an opportunity to become a home inspector with one of the largest home inspection companies in Western Massachusetts. I trained with that company and soon was doing up to 3 inspections per day. Word started getting around among the real estate agents that "I knew what I was doing". They began asking for me by name. Some agents began calling me the "house doctor". One agent even called me the "house surgeon". I would spot structural issues that other inspectors would miss. Now I am doing inspections on my own.
