FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
A simple shave is about $75-80 (More if the dog is larger or VERY matted.) Grooms to standard or puppy cuts start at $75. I don't generally charge for dematting, but would strongly suggest a shave down because the time-consuming process is uncomfortable and stressful for your pet. Tips are greatly appreciated, but never required, just like your own hair stylist. Nail trimming and ear cleaning are included in the price. I am also well versed in anal gland expression and can check these and advise accordingly. Because cats are inherently more difficult to groom, a full dematting or lion clip starts at about $99. While these charges may be slightly more pricey than a full service salon, they are very competitive compared to mobile grooming services. Please keep in mind that I do NOT drive a mobile grooming van. I'm an in-home groomer.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
When I am texted, called or emailed by a prospective client, I like to find out the age, breed and general health of their dog, what type of bathing/grooming they want done and how we might set a mutually convenient rendezvouz. Normally I will bathe first then dry and style. If a dog needs a lot of coat removed, I would do a preliminary shave down to reduce drying time and creating tighter knots. I do grooming at the client's home so that the owner can be present and the process is less stressful to the dog if anxiety is an issue.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I graduated from the CT K-9 Education Center in Newington with a grooming certificate in 2014 after having taken Vet Assisting Courses I & II at Manchester Community College in 2013. I also have a Batchelor's Degree in Business/Marketing from CCSU. Because I've owned dogs for many years, I'm quite familiar with their day-to-day needs. My favorite breed is the Golden Retriever (my first dogs were brother and sister English Cream Goldens) and that's one of the reasons I named my business Golden Rule. Currently I share my home with 3 rescue dogs: a Chihuahua Mix, a Teacup Chihuahua and a Poodle Mix; Evelina, Pixie Pi and Delphine, respectively. I have worked at several grooming salons as a stylist, but transitioned to in-home grooming once I realized that I had a knack for it and that it was so darn much FUN. I keep up with the latest in techniques by conferring with my colleagues, attend grooming shows where demonstrations are highlighted, watching online educational videos and most importantly listening to my customers.
