Hello! My name is Josh Mundt and I am a guitar and bass player from Denver, Colorado. I love music and I am truly passionate about teaching. I believe sharing knowledge is important and there are few things that thrill me more than watching a student develop as a musician and discover the joys of playing. For me, teaching isn't a side gig to pay the bills. It is one of the main components of my musical life. You can be assured that helping to reach your goals will always be my top priority. I have been conducting remote guitar lessons since 2020 and have developed a system that allows for highly productive lessons over the internet.
Why should you hire me? How qualified am I anyway?
- I hold a Bachelors Degree in Music with an emphasis on Jazz guitar.
- I taught with Colorado Conservatory For the Jazz Arts
- I taught with School of Rock teaching all age groups and skill levels.
- I have led group music classes in several elementary school classrooms
- I have years of group and individual teaching experience and years of gigging experience
During my time in college, I learned a lot about music education and received a very holistic education myself. Not only did I learn a lot about guitar performance, but I also learned music theory, ear training, musicology, audio engineering, music business, and much more. I spent my time in college immersed in music and also took every chance I could get to play gigs, teach, and also hear live music to draw inspiration.
What do lessons with me look like?
I take a very goal oriented approach to teaching. I don't have a generic curriculum that I feed to students because I believe every student is different. Every student learns differently, every student has different goals, and music means something different to everybody. Maybe your aspiration is to study music in a top tier university and go on to tour the world. I can help you get there. Maybe you simply just want to jam on some simple rock songs with your friends. I can help you get there. Maybe you're not sure where your music journey will take you. That's great! I can help you explore your options and learn more about what music means to you.
I place a big emphasis on goal setting. After we get an idea of what you want to achieve as a musician, I help you set up goals. We can choose something tangible that can actually be achieved over a certain period of time. Additionally, we can set smaller "micro goals" that can be reached quicker and serve as benchmarks toward achieving that big goal. Whether your goal is to play a gig in front of an audience, to learn a hard solo, to be able to attend a jam session, we can come up with a step-by-step game plan to get you there.
I also emphasize music as a passion and as something that sparks joy. I like helping students learn songs they like, or learn about their favorite guitar players. I try to make lessons fun and, even if something is difficult, try to promote a relaxed learning environment. I believe we get better results when we are in a good headspace. Lessons with me are fun because it's all about the joy of music! I am not rigid, but you will still find quick progress. For me it's not just about feeding you information, but fostering a healthy relationship with your instrument.
My degree was in Jazz, but I also love Metal guitar and teach that as well. My approach to teaching Jazz is quite different from my approach to teaching Metal, but there is quite a bit of crossover and we can even study both genres of they both interest you.
I offer lessons over Skype which is really helpful for providing visual aids and sending materials directly to the student. We can schedule a 30 minute trial lesson to talk through your goals and see if it's a good fit. After every lesson, I also provide students with PDF and GuitarPro practice sheets that they can use outside of the lessons so important concepts aren't forgotten. I can also provide samples of these to anyone who is curious about what lessons entail. I look forward to working with you!
