Introduction
In-person lessons in Broomfield, Colorado (short drive from Boulder & Denver). Online lessons via Zoom. While my students range from adult learners playing for fun to pre-college students seeking music scholarships, it is always my goal to provide a positive learning environment and tailor each lesson to the individual. I strive to ensure that all students find joy and confidence in their playing at every stage of learning and are able to establish independent thinking and expression. Students are encouraged to listen actively to their own playing, and find their own artistic voice. My teaching style includes Blocki Flute Method techniques, KinderFlute techniques, as well as a variety of methodologies to meet the needs of each learner. Lessons are personalized for each student, and include weekly lesson notes, handouts, exercises specifically curated for the student, and my favorite exercises and techniques that I use with all students in my studio. My work with each student is individualized to their personal and musical goals, as well as their prior knowledge and experience in flute playing. I currently teach a fantastic studio of flute students, including a few adult learners, several brand new beginners, and several advanced students who have been working with me since starting their playing journey at ages 7 to 10, and are now auditioning for performing arts high schools, flute competitions, and are beginning to prepare to enter music school. One of my favorite aspects of teaching in my studio is watching my students transform from brand new beginners to advanced flutists who are ready to tackle challenging repertoire and find new levels of artistry within their playing. In all lessons regardless of ability level and background, students can expect to work on tone, technique, scales, rhythm reading, basic music theory (or more advanced depending on the needs of the student), articulation, vibrato, practice habits, and musicality. If you feel you or your student would be a great fit to join my studio, please reach out! ABOUT ME: Originally from Louisville, Kentucky, I received my Bachelor's Degree in Music Education from Morehead State University and have been teaching lessons for seven years, both in person and online. I attended KinderFlute teacher training in 2021 and hold a P-12 General, Vocal, and Instrumental Music Teaching License. I have been fortunate to have performed in masterclasses with renowned artists including Eva Amsler, Soo Kyung-Park, Karen McLaughlin Large, Chelsea Tanner, and Colleen White. I was a finalist in the Gallaher Music Performance Scholarship Competition, Flute Society of Kentucky Collegiate Artist Competition, and I am an active performer in the Broomfield/Denver area. My former teachers include Jennifer Cooper, Heather Small, Chelsea Tanner, and Christina Jennings.

Shelby Anderson was very responsive and even though we are out of a different state she was organized and had a zoom link ready. She made the entire setup process easy and even offered a short FREE lesson to assess and see if she was good fit for us. My daughter connected with her right away (something she doesn’t do easily). Across the states and through COVID, Ms. Anderson made finding a flute tutor easy and now my daughter is enjoying her lessons, and at a very reasonable rate as well.

Shelby was absolutely fantastic! She was punctual, professional, compassionate and so very helpful. Even with it being a holiday weekend, still gracefully fit us into her schedule for a Saturday and then a Sunday lesson. My daughter needed last minute assistance on an audition piece for her honor’s band and Shelby really come through. Thank you so much, Shelby!
