In-person lessons in Broomfield, Colorado (short drive from Boulder & Denver). Online lessons via Zoom.
While my students range from adult learners playing for fun to pre-college students seeking music scholarships, it is always my goal to provide a positive learning environment and tailor each lesson to the individual. I strive to ensure that all students find joy and confidence in their playing at every stage of learning and are able to establish independent thinking and expression. Students are encouraged to listen actively to their own playing, and find their own artistic voice.
My teaching style includes Blocki Flute Method techniques, KinderFlute techniques, as well as a variety of methodologies to meet the needs of each learner. Lessons are personalized for each student, and include weekly lesson notes, handouts, exercises specifically curated for the student, and my favorite exercises and techniques that I use with all students in my studio. My work with each student is individualized to their personal and musical goals, as well as their prior knowledge and experience in flute playing.
I currently teach a fantastic studio of flute students, including a few adult learners, several brand new beginners, and several advanced students who have been working with me since starting their playing journey at ages 7 to 10, and are now auditioning for performing arts high schools, flute competitions, and are beginning to prepare to enter music school. One of my favorite aspects of teaching in my studio is watching my students transform from brand new beginners to advanced flutists who are ready to tackle challenging repertoire and find new levels of artistry within their playing.
In all lessons regardless of ability level and background, students can expect to work on tone, technique, scales, rhythm reading, basic music theory (or more advanced depending on the needs of the student), articulation, vibrato, practice habits, and musicality.
