FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I charge $30/half hour, $40/45 minutes or $50/hour. Lessons longer than an hour are prorated at the $50/hour rate (example: a 1.5 hour lesson would cost $75). I do travel to student's homes inside of Boulder city limits for $10/trip. So if you have 2 kids and they both take lessons, you only pay the fee one time, since I'm already there! I also make discounts for students buying a pack of lessons all at once. This depends on the situation.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I like to get to know the student and the parents (if it's a child), and discuss goals for the student's musical progress, plus scheduling. We can also check in around support if the student/family needs help getting an instrument. Then we get to the fun part: playing!
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I graduated Summa Cum Laude from Metro State's music school in 2013. I have been a working musician for over 15 years. I have spent 20 years apprenticing with Master Drummers Fara Tolno and Abdoul Doumbia from West Africa, and performing in Fara's troupe, Kissidugu (I am still a member). I have conducted study tours to West Africa in 2008 and Cuba in 2017. I was a teacher in the Peace Corps from 2001-2003 (Mozambique), and a sub for BVSD for 5 years. I continue to take private lessons myself with elite teachers in order to keep my skills up to date.
