Introduction

I teach more than just the basics of guitar playing. These involve technique and style that they don't show you in music theory or "standardized" guitar courses. Much of this comes from my over 40 years of live and recorded performance. I find my artists (students) sound more professional and stand out from many others when they learn this way. In addition, I encourage my artists to choose the songs that THEY want to learn! I believe the more fun you can have while learning, the better (and faster) you'll get to the next level! I can teach in person, or virtually. I do both on a regular basis. I accept students from 8 to 80 years old. So whether you're starting from scratch, or just wanting to "up your game" playing guitar, or anything in between, here's your chance to learn tips AND tricks of the trade from a working musician.

I am writing to recommend Neil Zimmerman for guitar lessons. I have found Neil to be very committed in helping me become a better guitar player. Neil always brings an upbeat, caring and patient attitude to each lesson. In the few short months I have been working with Neil, my knowledge of alternate fingering of chords and picking techniques have increased tremendously. Neil really takes the time to assess your current guitar playing skills and then uses that information to customize his teaching approach to each artist (student). No matter what your skill level is, Neil can quickly assess your ability and get you on a path of improvement. Neil is great. He relates well to my daughter, teaches her skills she can immediately apply to what she is working on. He is technically on point, in tune with music she likes and able to explain things in a fun, understandable manner. I would highly recommend him to anyone of any age wanting to improve their guitar playing ability.

Neil brought everything he needed to play a set at my bar. He showed up early and was set up well before he was set to start playing. What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
If you're smart as a musician, you NEVER stop learning. There's always a new artist, or song, or sound, coming along. I keep up with a lot in the music industry. I'm always trying to find out how that guitarist, or that producer, got THAT SOUND. And then make that sound myself!
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
You've got to be on the same "wavelength" with your instructor. The two of you need to feel comfortable together. It's a team effort, so if it feels like you could have your instructor on the same team as you, whether it's a sports team, or business, or whatever, then it will likely be a good fit.
