- How did you get started doing this type of work?
My journey into the world of tax and finance began with a pivotal moment while working at H&R Block in the heart of the inner city. As I assisted blue-collar clients, a proverbial light bulb went off. I realized that many of these hardworking individuals were avoiding tax compliance due to fear and a lack of understanding of the income tax process, particularly in self-employment scenarios. Witnessing their struggles to make ends meet, I felt compelled to bridge the knowledge gap. I embarked on a mission to educate them on the benefits of being tax compliant within their income levels. This involved dispelling misconceptions and demystifying the income tax process for those who were barely surviving. I noticed a widespread lack of education in the community about income taxes, prompting me to organize educational sessions. These sessions covered essential topics such as filling out the W-4, preparing necessary documents for tax professionals, and maintaining proper records for self-employment income. The goal was not just to assist with immediate tax concerns but to empower individuals with the knowledge and tools needed to navigate their financial responsibilities more effectively. With the invaluable training and education gained from my tenure, I felt the time was ripe to venture out on my own. After fulfilling a two-year non-compete clause, I established Sauza Tax & Real Estate in 2020. The firm is built on the foundation of empowerment through education, aiming to provide comprehensive financial guidance to individuals and businesses alike.
