FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I don't have a standard pricing system. My fee depends on the type of matter involved. I take certain types of cases on a contingency fee basis (which means that I get paid only if I recover money for the client). Typically, that's how I handle personal injury cases and certain business disputes. I take certain other cases on an hourly fee basis. Typically, that's how I handle most business disputes. Finally, I handle some cases, typically involving discrete, short term matters, on a flat fee basis.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I always offer a FREE initial telephone consultation. Before I can accept representation of a new client, I am ethically obligated to run a "conflicts check," based on very basic information I obtain from the prospective client, to make sure the opposing party is not already a client. If conflicts are cleared (as they almost always do), I obtain more detailed information from the prospective client regarding the matter. If I determine that I am qualified to handle the mater and am interested in the case, then I enter into a written engagement agreement with the client. This way, the client knows in advance exactly what our respective rights and obligations are. Once the legal representation is established, it is very important that the client is always truthful and cooperative with me, as this is the only way I can provide the best representation. If I determine that I am not the right lawyer for the case, I am usually able to refer the prospective client to at least one other attorney.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Juris Doctor (JD) degree from Loyola Law School Los Angeles. I graduated with honors, and was ranked in the top 5% of my class. I also have bachelor of science in engineering, as well as years of experience working as an engineer, which helps me develop good problem-solving strategies for the legal cases I handle.
