Avoid Royal Jim Maintenance Cleaning Service – Unprofessional and Unprepared I hired Royal Gem Maintenance Cleaning Service to perform a construction cleanup on a recently renovated bathroom and a light cleaning of the master bedroom in a property in Stockton. Unfortunately, my experience with them was far below expectations. As a licensed general contractor specializing in full-service renovations and remodeling, I expect cleaning professionals to be prepared and capable of handling simple post-construction cleanup tasks. This was not the case with Royal GemMaintenance. We initially requested a full home cleaning but decided to scale back to focus solely on the bathroom and master bedroom. They quoted $250 for the job, which included cleaning construction-related debris such as silicone caulking, paint spots, adhesive on the floor, and wiping down all surfaces. After negotiating the price to $150, the cleaners arrived completely unprepared to handle the construction cleanup. Despite having a clear list of tasks, they were unable to properly clean the bathroom. They did not remove the silicone caulking, adhesive, or paint stains as requested, citing that they lacked the necessary chemicals and equipment. Instead, they performed a general cleaning of the bathroom, mopped the floors, and lightly dusted the baseboards. This was far from the thorough cleaning we needed and expected. When I called to discuss the issue, the owner admitted that she rarely does construction cleanups and was not equipped for the job. She said she didn’t purchase the required chemicals because we negotiated the price lower. This is completely unprofessional—if they accepted the job, they should have come prepared, regardless of the price adjustment. I ended up going to the site myself to complete the job. It took me just 45 minutes of light scrubbing to handle everything on the original list, including removing the adhesive, silicone, and paint stains—tasks their team of two cleaners couldn’t accomplish in three hours. To make matters worse, when I asked them to return and properly clean the floors, they demanded $125, despite the fact that this was part of the original agreement. I even offered $75, but they refused, claiming they’d only return for $125 and would do another “full construction cleanup” I didn’t need. Throughout this process, they demonstrated a complete lack of professionalism, preparation, and accountability. They even commented on the client’s dissatisfaction with the construction job, which was completely inappropriate and unrelated to their role. As a general contractor, I regularly hire cleaning services for post-construction cleanups, and this has been one of the worst experiences I’ve encountered. Royal Gem Maintenance Cleaning Service wasted my time and failed to meet even the most basic expectations for a cleaning service. I do not recommend this company to anyone looking for reliable and professional cleaning services. The two pictures below are small snapshots of a larger issue. For The Floor, there were spots in multiple places. Most of these marks, you cannot get up with just a simple swipe of the mop. Some of it you have to put a little pressure on the mop. You may even have to get down and wipe by hand. The caulking is very easy to get off of the frame, but they refuse to even touch it. Most of my issue is the lack of accountability and professionalism. Hire your own risk. My company will no longer be using this company.
