RESULTS. I can save you time and money with a technique that is so effective you will see results in minutes, rather than weeks or months. We will not spend multiple lessons just learning how to breath, or running through silly exercises that don't help. At each lesson, a workout program will be customized for the needs of your voice to keep it progressing steadily. Through clear instruction and guidance, students gain control and an understanding of their instrument which lays the foundation for a lifetime of healthy, effective singing! I love working with voices and being a part of their development. I don't care how good or bad a singer is when they come to me. I get excited when I hear the progress we make at each lesson and as the voice develops over time. Ask me for a 1/2 price trial lesson! I currently offer both in-person (Solana Beach, California) and online lessons.

I had my first lesson and within 45 minutes I had better breathe control, sang louder and was able to hit higher notes stronger. Amazing and will not waste your time or money.

I've been to a few voice teachers over the years and have not found one that has provided valuable feedback applicable to my voice and how I can improve it. My first lesson with Virginia was very different from past experiences. She was able to target several areas that will improve my vocal strenth, and I've already noticed a difference in how I approach a song, both mentally and physically. I plan on goind to Virginia exclusively moving forward, and I would recommend her 100% to anyone wanting to improve the quality of their singing.

I had been afraid to sing in public all my life. The only singing I had done before I met Virginia was in the shower. Virginia liberated my voice in the very first lesson. She created a safe space for me to explore my range and tonality. Virginia showed me how to feel my voice in my body and intentionally use it. I’ve learned to appreciate my voice as a true instrument. My range increased in just a few lessons. I have more confidence to belt out songs that I never thought I’d be able to sing. Virginia is easy to work with and will bring out the best in you!

I started with Virginia just recently. Not as a complete beginner, but rather as someone who has enjoyed singing and little performances here and there for years. I had a relatively pleasant voice, though I knew it was much softer than it could be. After starting in a more rock/soul oriented band, I realized I needed access to power in my voice, and a steadier, more confident progression through my range. And to learn just how the heck are you supposed to use that diaphragm anyway?! Learning by video exercise can only do so much! And thus, I found Virginia on Thumbtack. Her experience, continuing vocal education, and participation in bands herself greatly appealed to me and I let this good feeling lead me to her tutelage. And then..one lesson. That's all it took to open the gates to the improvement I was looking for! I was by no means -there- yet, but the level of power and clarity I increased to after that one free intro was really surprising to what I had expected. She seemed to know what parts of myself I had strength in and which parts I was having trouble utilizing. Instead of vague guidance she had clear, precise troubleshooting. She showed me a technical diagram of what my vocal cords were doing to my sound. She also instructed not only with exercises to train cords, but also with explanations for them. She also gave helpful ways of imagining sound in the head to assist in vocalizing each exercise correctly. Also, she seemed to "learn" my voice very quickly, picking up on what I needed work on and what styles matched me. And there is a helpful little stage in the back with a mic to practice actual stage presence as well. Throughout the two other lessons I've continued with her, things just keep getting better. It seems to me this is complete package training here! The exercises are smoothing out my weak spots, boosting my chest power and I'm learning how to correctly engage the stomach, and keep everything in my mouth positioned correctly. And I got tips on technical performance things like usage of in ear monitors, etc. I feel like I've already gotten a lot out of the mere couple of lessons I have so far attended. I managed to shock all my bandmates with my sudden improvement, which was a reeeeeally great time =). I can't wait to see how I'll progress later on down the line!

Virginia is awesome and so is Speech Level Singing! I love this technique for singing. I have seen tremendous progress in the past month! Im hitting higher notes with ease and the technique is really fun to learn! Virginia is a great teacher, she knows how to cater to your strong suites and allows you to progress without feeling like youre struggling too hard! I would definitely suggest speech level singing to anyone interested in vocal lessons and Virginia is the best!

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Clients can pay per lesson, monthly, or purchase a 2, 4, or 8 lesson package. There is a discount for monthly and package purchases. Please refer to my web page for current prices, packages and specials.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
At the first lesson I will take the student through a diagnostic scale to assess their voice and determine what it's strengths are and where they need to improve. Based on that assessment, I develop a workout program for them, then we work on a song and learn how to apply their improved coordination to singing.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
As a certified Speech Level Singing (SLS) Instructor, I am required to fulfill educational requirements yearly. These include private lessons with Mr. Riggs, teaching in front Mr. Riggs and other SLS teachers, watching Mr. Riggs work with one of my students, and attending the yearly SLS Training Camps.
