FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
A standard piano tuning starts at $150, for any piano. Spinets, uprights, grands and beyond, we don't price gouge for bigger pianos. It's the same fee across the board. We service the entire San Diego region, but for clients more than 20 miles from my Service Center, a travel fee of $1 per mile may be collected.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
What does it look like to have your piano serviced by us? First, we’ll carefully take off the covers of your instrument to inspect the interior for any damage, irregularities, or anything out of the ordinary. After the initial inspection, we’ll get straight to work. We’ll start by checking every single key to make sure everything is working correctly, and nothing is broken or out of place. If there are any sticking keys, we’ll do our best to identify the problem and recommend the best course of action. If anything is broken or damaged, we’ll notify you immediately and recommend the best fix or repair for the problem. After we’ve confirmed the piano is in good working condition, we’ll take some readings of the current pitch to check the tension level of the strings. Sometimes, pianos need a little extra love when we tune them depending on how long it’s been since the last tuning: this reading will help us determine what kind of service you need. Once we determine the pitch of the instrument, the technician will recommend the best course of action, and once a decision is made begin tuning your piano. The greatest care is made to ensure your instrument is cared for in the most careful and considerate manner. Once your instrument is tuned, we’ll inspect it again to make sure everything looks right. Once we’re satisfied with the work, we’ll ask you to inspect it and give it a play, or the technician can play it for you to demonstrate the completion and quality of the tuning. At this point we’ll reassemble your instrument. If the technician made any observations or has any recommendations for additional service, we’ll discuss it with you at this time. We always recommend that your piano be serviced at regular six month intervals for optimal instrument health and performance. The best way you can care for your instrument between service appointments is to dust and clean the exterior, and play it as often as you can. Playing the instrument helps keeps the internal components from sticking and binding by keeping the lubrication of the moving parts well distributed.
