FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
ESL/ELL (English for speakers of Other Languages) I have an hourly rate for the sessions and I prefer a minimum of 2 hours a week of 1:1 sessions. You can choose to send in the payment after every session or make a payment on a monthly basis. ____________________________________________________________________________ Editing & Proofreading I charge per page for proofreading and the standard page I work on contains 300 words. This would give you an idea of how many pages you have for me to work on. This would also make it easier for you to calculate the pricing/estimates I provide. Copy editing/developmental editing, and content editing are charged per hour because they require thorough scanning of the document. I log the number of hours I work on the project each day. The number of hours I dedicate to your work per week depends on how urgent you need the work done and how much editing is needed. I would usually ask you to send me a 2-5 page sample so that I can give you an exact quote on pricing for the project.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
ESL/ELL (English for speakers of Other Languages) Our first session is a diagnostic where I make an assessment of your current language proficiency. This is where we would get to know each other, ask/answer questions, and lay the basic foundation for our language learning journey. I strongly believe that a healthy relationship between the learner and the teacher is key to a successful educational process. Based on our diagnostic session, I then would create a customized course outline for you (this may take up to a week). Then we would agree on a convenient couple of days of the week for us to have regular sessions. __________________________________________________________________________ Editing & Proofreading There are some initial questions I would like you to answer if you are a new customer: 1. What type of editing service are you looking for (proofreading/copy editing/content editing)? 2. Do you have a date in mind for me to return the project? 3. What is the total number of words in the project? I would then ask you to email me a sample of the project. You would receive the pricing information after I go over the sample. This would usually take up to 24 hours. The first edit consists of questions I have for you, comments, parts that need clarifications in the document, and suggestions. You will receive a copy with all track changes I have made and comments. At this point, you can go over it and answer the questions/approve/add content. Once you return the first edit to me, I will work on the final edit, which will be returned to you on the agreed turn-around date, if there is one.
- What types of customers have you worked with?
ESL/ELL (English for speakers of Other Languages) All my ESL/ELL students are adults working on improving their conversational fluency, writing, reading, and listening skills for academic and employment purposes. ____________________________________________________________________________ Editing & Proofreading I mostly work with college students, assisting their work at undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels, ranging from class papers, literature reviews, and journal articles, to theses and dissertations. Apart from academia, I work with novelists and writers on proofreading their much-loved manuscripts.
