FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Flexible pricing based on needs and circumstances. Standard Base-Rate is $90/hour. INCLUDES: off-line homework (required) which I monitor constantly often sending suggestions to improve the student's actions, external resources, and access to my online chess study resources and school that provide programs to ensure maximum results. Parental participation in managing a child’s studies is highly desired to assure success. This is a serious program and is NOT for everyone. NOTE: I do not coach students that won’t do homework. If the above doesn’t match up for you, then I’m not the right coach.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I have a phone conversation to explain the program and answer any questions. My star student's parents are willing to talk to anyone considering working with me. I then recommend starting with a test lesson. If that lesson fails, I reduce the fee and we can be friends.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
My primary career was sales management and consulting. I've been coaching high-tech salespeople others since 1973. My consulting practice was mostly teaching folks to sell on the phone. I have developed dozens of hours of training videos on this subject and many courses. !! NOTE: My deep education as it relates to training and coaching has allowed me in the past few years to develop specific techniques for teaching kids to play chess. Most kids watching a chess video will have great difficulty mastering it's content. Many coaching engagements may be strained and kids may have difficulty learning/mastering what is coached. I have sidestepped this problem with unique approaches and techniques I've developed to literally "trick" kids into learning. I have eliminated the intimidation of more complex ides (such as visualization and calculation) with these same practices. I developed three of the American Management Association's public sales courses. I attended all of their training programs on accelerated learning, courseware development and effective presentation within that work. Additionally, I have studied accelerated learning from other sources and taken a 120-hour study technology course designed to teach the student how to study in a way that assures the ability to do what was learned successfully in the real world. I bring to my love and passion for kids and chess coaching thousands of hours of high-level coaching and training combined with an expertise in training development and learning and study methods. I take full advantage of this knowledge in the way I teach. It makes a huge difference in the results.
