Hi, I'm Melinda, and I offer in-person lessons in San Francisco and online lessons to singers around the world of all levels. I have over 15 years of experience as a professional singer and voice teacher. I'm classically trained, and I can sing everything from opera, to R&B, to musical theater and pop! I have my Masters Degree in Vocal Performance from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. I specialize in a time-tested technique that I pass on to my students to ensure healthy singing for everyone. I speak Spanish and French, and sing in over 10 languages. With my encouraging and student-centered approach, I teach all styles. I can personalize our lesson time together by adding other components, such as audition preparation, sight-singing, music history, and performance readiness. My students have been admitted to prestigious college vocal programs and have also been cast in leading roles on stages across the nation. Besides teaching my voice studio, I'm also a music professor and professional singer! I really enjoy teaching people to sing and I like to make the process fun for my students! I am just someone who has wanted to take singing lessons for a very long time. I reached out to the 3 teachers who responded back to me here. I asked how was the class structured and what their approach was. Melinda is the only one who answered my request fully. She stated how important it is to take the time to find a good fit student-teacher wise. Her technique/style (bel canto) and a general outline of how classes would move forward. Warm up vocal exercises followed by chosen songs by myself ,and her opinion, that will fit my voice. Melinda let me know the time length of her classes- many options- I never felt like I was getting a sales pitch. Also, with as many teachings as Melinda has, Was very flexible with rearranging my class time. I find Melinda very professional with lots!! Of experience.

I've had 2 lessons with Melinda so far and I can already see some improvements in how I breathe, how comfortable I am with my voice, and even extending my range! Melinda is an excellent teacher that knows the ins and outs of teaching how to sing naturally and properly. And she gives exercises for us to practice at home as well.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
My prices for the first lesson are 30 min / $70, 45 min / $90, and 60 min / $105. After that, I give a discount for signing up for a month of lessons (one lesson per week).
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I first ask the customer questions that help me get to know them as an individual, their experience with music, and what their goals are with singing. I tailor warm-up exercises to their needs and suggest songs for them based on their voice type, experience, and musical preferences.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Melinda is passionate about making healthy singing accessible to everyone. With 15 years as a music educator, she is also a professional vocalist who brings her performance experience from local and world stages to her teaching. She received her Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and went on to study in Spain and France.
