Introduction

I received a 2390 (equivalent to 1580) on the SAT and a 35 on the ACT, and regularly stay up to date as the content and structure of both tests evolve. As a UC Berkeley grad (class of 2018), I can empathize with the struggles that students have with the SAT and ACT! I started my tutoring business in September 2014 and have tutored over 60 students who have experienced, on average, a 25% increase in test scores. I create unique, customizable lesson plans, because I believe no two students learn the same; the plans combine physical and online learning resources in an easy-to-digest manner. Most importantly, I care about my students and understand how to effectively communicate important concepts, along with offering strategies that are proven to work. I enjoy my students! I love to teach, as I believe knowledge is power. With the college landscape becoming more and more competitive, it is important for students to ace the SAT and ACT. I view tutoring as a game; how can I most efficiently communicate key concepts, while ensuring students retain the information? I enjoy meeting and interacting with new people, and seeing the "eureka" moment when a student masters a problem is priceless.

Soham is a great tutor and my son enjoyed his coaching, which is very helpful and provided in an efficient manner. His special attention to my son enabled him to achieve an SAT score 98-99th percentile within a short duration. Initially Soham assesses the strengths and weakness of a child’s abilities in the SAT test. Then, he devises a strategy that is individualized and tailored to each student.

It was easy to see from the beginning that he was going to be a great fit for my daughter. He is personable, patient and extremely knowledgeable. It was easy to see that he truly wants what's best for his students. My daughter said she liked how he really listened to her, and that he explained things well. She appreciated that he encouraged her to talk through her process and not just solve the problems for her. He had a good understanding of the scope and sequence of the material, so he was able to easily guide her through the process. Overall this was a very positive experience, and my daughter is requesting to work with him again in the fall. We are all onboard!

I am very happy that my daughter got 110 score improvement in recent SAT, thanks largely to Soham's help. She had trial session from 3 others, but found him to be the most helpful after initial session. So we selected him to continue for about dozen more sessions . I am glad we chose him as it increased my daughter confidence quite a bit. He was also flexible to accommodate our last minute need of coming down for an unplanned session a day prior to test for helping out.Thanks a lot for that Soham. I truly feel any needy student can get lot of help from him.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Sessions usually last 1-2 hours, and are $80-$90/hr (depending on location, subjects required, etc.). I offer a free phone or in person consultation to see if it's a good fit before beginning tutoring.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
First, I seek to understand what the student's goals are. Usually these begin with identifying target colleges. From there, I am able to move to a range of SAT/ACT scores that would be a part of an extremely strong application. I run a few diagnostic tests to see the student's current skill level, and then create a customized lesson plan, whether over 5 weeks, 5 months, or something else that best fits the student's learning style.
