Jeff is an exceptional teacher. His ability to breakdown theory into simple concepts makes guitar learning fun and exciting. I highly recommend.

Incredibly rude and threw a hissy fit after I politely mentioned the price he is charging (based on his low amount of reviews) was just way too much when there are many actual certified thumbtack pros with 20 and 30+ 5-star reviews and way more on their resume who are charging half what he is. Super thin skin and rude. No idea of his teaching ability but if it is anything like his attitude... I don't imagine it's what most people are looking... I know it's not what I'm looking for. Not a nice guy.

Details: 26 - 44 years old • No formal training; some self-taught experience • Yes, can read guitar tabs • Electric • Blues • Jazz • Rock • What the teacher recommends • Yes, the student has an instrument • 45 minutes • My home, venue, etc. • Remotely (phone or internet)

John B. wrote above " No idea of his teaching ability" but "he is charging ... way too much". Without knowing anything at all about me, he has determined that I'm not worth the tuition I've been charging for over thirty years (adjusted for inflation). Nothing insulting about that, is there? NB. The number of reviews is largely a function of the length of time someone has been associated with Thumbtack.

It is very difficult to properly assess this teacher. We only had three lessons and most of the time was spent setting up Zoom. I believe he had the potential to be a good teacher but failed to approach the learning process in a manner that was consistent with my ability or interest. I am 73 years old and have been playing music since I was about 10. I consider myself to be an “advanced intermediate” guitar player. The teacher asked me what type of music I liked and he selected Country soloing to teach me. He never ascertained what I was already capable of or what I wanted to learn; only what he wanted to teach me. After the third lesson, I discussed the issue with him and after a point, he stopped communicating.

Details: 65 years or older • No formal training; some self-taught experience • Yes, can read music staff • Electric • Rock • Country • Jazz • Yes, the student has an instrument • 30 minutes • Remotely (phone or internet)

In Tom's initial introductory blurb about himself, he wrote: "I have not had much success with guitar teachers so I may be a little skeptical." Our lesson began with this attitude of skepticism and continued along in that same manner. I feel that I was not given a fair chance to bring him the knowledge that what he wanted. He originally told me that he was interested in 'technique'. He said his three main styles of music are: Country, Rock, and Jazz. Country technique is different from Rock technique, and Jazz technique is way different from both of those. Jazz is something that you spend years working up to. Flipped a coin and chose Country technique. Maybe we have different definitions of the word "technique". He hasn't had much success with guitar teachers, and I guess I'm no exception. Better Luck Next Time!

Jeff Brent is an absolute professional with many years of experience and versatility across many styles and instruments. He is patient and thorough in explanation of musical concepts, and it was very easy to see that he wanted me to learn and grow as much as I did! Unfortunately I had to cancel our learning sessions due to some life situations but I enjoyed my time immensely. Thank you Jeff!
