FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I typically ask $150 and hour, for a minimum of two hours, but not always. Sometimes I break it down into lower increments of $25 an hour depending on the day of the week, if it's a really busy season or not, etc. Digital caricatures are also available, but the cost per hour is higher. Digital drawings are done on a tablet with painting software, then printed out for each guest on 4" x 6" photo paper.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I usually have an e-mail exchange with a new customer in which we determine the date, times, fee, venue and any other details of the event. I write up a contract stating all the details and submit it to the client for their signature; sometimes a deposit is required to secure the date, but not always. That's a pretty basic sequence, not very complicated.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been drawing and illustrating as a free-lance cartoonist since 1985. I was copying caricatures out of MAD magazine since i was a kid! Also, I trained at the California College of Arts & Crafts in Oakland and the Art Academy in San Francisco. I studied drawing, graphic design, calligraphy, painting and photography.
