Alex originally offered to come to my house to provide a free quote for a difficult to repair broken window which I wasn’t certain could be done. He clearly demonstrated he is an expert with windows and showed me exactly how he will properly repair it. In addition, and without notice I asked him if he could remove and install new ceiling lights and dimmer switches. This was because another contractor I hired to do this didn’t show up so, he jumped in and took care of this. He was polite, friendly, professional, very knowledgeable and worked quickly. He did a great job and I would use him again.

CLASSIC BAIT & SWITCH! Needed someone to install (1) curtain rod. Hiring this person was the worst experience EVER Upon arrival, I showed him what needed to be done which he agreed to do. Never once did he say, mention, or confirm a different rate or price than what was quoted to me from his profile on the app. I am an interior, designer/home stager so I am familiar with fair & current rates. I came to Thumbtack only because my usual handyman was on vacation. After the job was completed, he tried to charge me almost 3 times the quoted price! He said there was a “travel fee” because he had to drive. I told him that was neither disclosed nor discussed prior to starting the job nor did I authorize or agree to paying that price. I also informed him that advertising a rate he is unwilling to accept so he could procure a job is bait and switch which is fraudulent and illegal in California. He became arrogant and belligerent so I demanded that he leave my property ASAP or I would call the police. I did pay what he officially quoted when I hired him through Thumbtack (though he refused to take payment through the app) so I paid by Zelle. ***UPDATE*** Shortly after I posted this review, he sent me this private message (SEE PHOTO). Gives you an insight to the type of person you are dealing with.

My price for the work is not cheap. I try to provide the best service. I find a solution even in the most complex projects. Quality cannot be cheap. We can always discuss an additional discount. I provide a savings discount for regular customers. I also provide a veteran's discount of up to 50%.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
More often than not, interaction with a new client starts with understanding his project, what needs to be done, when it will be convenient for him, whether I can do the work for him in the shortest possible time. I ask for photos and a detailed description of what the client wants to get as a result.

I was educated as an engineer in the academy, as well as a lot of training to improve the qualifications of various activities, including technical.
