I thought “why couldn’t my teachers break this down for me?” I’m still not sure! But fast forward to today, as a teacher myself I’ve made it my mission to demystify your voice, to put you in control and get you the results you want, no generalities! Real results! It takes being patient, being brave and staying committed, but it’s an exciting and empowering journey! I'm a musician with no specific vocal training prior to working with Suzanne. I play other instruments and produce and write music, but singing has always been my weak spot and something I've been intimidated to dive into further. I've been meaning to take lessons for a long time, and I feel very lucky to have found such an excellent teacher in Suzanne. From the first lesson, Suzanne listened to the many things that I've been struggling with, and gave me excellent advice and exercises to improve on each of them. She's a great listener with a remarkable attention to detail. Singing is different from playing other instruments in that it's all happening inside your body, so it's important to be able to visualize and physically feel what you're doing when trying to produce a certain sound or emotion. Suzanne is so good at giving me different ways to imagine how something should feel, and how to slightly tweak them to get closer to the sound that I want. She provides so much useful feedback on the spot that I find myself going back to video recordings of our lessons to revisit her explanations. In the first few lessons, our goal was to make singing "feel good" before we start worrying about whether it sounds good. That focus on technique has led to massive improvements, and I'm surprised by how quickly I've seen a difference. She's familiar with lots of different styles - we've worked together on lots of R&B so far, as well as soft rock. In addition to working on technique, Suzanne has been getting me to explore my emotional range as a singer and lean into it more. Singing can make you feel quite vulnerable, and she's great at making me feel comfortable and giving positive reinforcement. We've recently started working on improving the vocals on some of my original music, and Suzanne has shown me ways to be more expressive and tap into different colors and emotions. I've seen huge improvements in just a handful of lessons, and am already feeling more confident with my voice. Most importantly singing has become less intimidating and more fun for me now that she's given me a foundation to build off of.

Working with Suzanne has been an incredible experience. She effortlessly blends a perfect mixture of absolute professionalism and deep knowledge of vocal techniques with explicit coaching and the upmost patience. I have explored areas of my voice I, frankly, didn't even know I existed, and have reached levels of vocal technique I didn't think I would ever be able to accomplish. What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Before we meet I ask them to choose a song that they’ve always wanted to sing better to start with, (it helps with nerves and getting the most out of the first lesson if you’re familiar with the material.) I ask the student about their background in singing and music and then their goals for their voice. I then go over some singing fundamentals (either teaching for the first time or reviewing for more experienced singers) before going through some warmups and exercises to help me understand their voice and needs. We finish by working on the song if their choice. From that point I can advise them on a plan of action to achieve their goals and correct and vocal issues I’m hearing. I try to pack as much as I can into that first lesson, so if we don’t work together again I can be satisfied I provided them with tools in that one lesson that can drastically improve their voice! My
