Introduction
My name is Troy and I train dogs. I never take shortcuts or cut corners using treats or food as for positive reinforcement. Food excites the canine mind and treat based training will teach your dog to not respect you unless you have food. I use praise, games, play, and toys as forms of positive reinforcement and train your dog to form a bond with its owner that's based on trust not treats. I spent over a decade working with and around animals at a zoo rescue and apprenticed privately under a master dog trainer. I have trained and handled exotic animals, reptiles, livestock, and yes, you guessed it, DOGS! I use a scientific approach to help your dog function in a human world by conditioning in all basic obedience commands using a method called operant conditioning. When your dog leaves my board and train program it will be able to perform all the skills of a fully trained and respectful dog citizen. I specialize in board & train offerings and train service dogs, physical assist dogs, hunting dogs, puppies, or simply basic obedience. I am available to all clients in the Southern California area and greater Los Angeles county.

Unbelievable service! Troy is an absolute professional. My puppies left my house with pody training issues, poor diets, and running our household and returned highly trained, healthy, giant behaved dogs. I learned so much about caring for and training them from him with lots of support from his personalized and general YouTube videos. I feel completely in sync with them and my whole family is enjoying a healthy new relationship with our beautiful dogs. Cannot recommend more! Troy is the real deal.

Troy was fantastic to work with, he explained what to expect and made sure we were realistic about the timeline our dog needed to make progress and what we'd need to be willing to do to maintain his obedience. He is the reason we can have a rescue dog in our home safely - with our three young kids 7, 5, and 2. My 7-year old daughter had been asking for a dog since we can remember. With all the pandemic dogs up for adoption, we really wanted to give one a new home vs. buying one from a breeder. We found 1.5 year old Bear up for adoption, and while he was very sweet, he was also a big German Shepard mix without any training, who was mostly left free in a back yard. Knowing that we'd be in over our head and needed some basic training for the safety of our family we found Troy. I particularly appreciated his training approach of respect and leadership vs. a treat-based approach which seems to be popular these days. We picked up the dog from his prior home and took him straight to Troy to get basic training done and get to know the dog before we brought him home. It was honestly the best decision we could have made. Bear is still a ball of energy if you set him free, but having training and ways to keep get him calm and focused have made all the difference. He is respectful, perfectly house trained, and learning to be a good citizen around other dogs. Bear came home knowing how to sit, down, heel, stay in a "place", and go to his kennel. Troy was also patient in training me and gave me routines to work on to continue Bear's education and obedience. We've had Bear home for about a month now. Our kids love him (and so do my husband and I) and he has become an integrated family member. He keeps getting better all the time with consistency and exposure as he becomes more focused and confident. We can't thank Troy enough.

Troy went above and beyond for myself and my service dog, Juno! Before going to Troy, I was stressing over how I was going to train my 9 month old puppy to grow into a well mannered service dog, especially with me being a struggling college student with a part-time job. I shared my goals and concerns with Troy, and he was very clear about what Juno and I would both need to do in order to have a balanced, functioning relationship as a service dog and her handler. In all honesty, I was very emotional about having Juno succeed as a service dog, but Troy was nothing but kind and accommodating, and I could never thank him enough for how much he has done for the both of us! Attached is a photo of Juno calmly laying behind my chair during a lecture.

This is not Zora’s first foray with a trainer but certainly our favorite. Troy’s style and approach is zen, scientific and humane. Zora is extremely stubborn and has been this way since she was a pup. She’s super smart but very stubborn. Troy is patient and diligent, which is exactly what Zora needs. He also has a great bedside demeanor which is helpful for any anxious dog parent. Not every dog is going to come out of there a completely different dog. A lot of Zora’s bad behaviors are gone. It is up to us to keep things up at home. We will also be bringing her back to work on some other higher level commands. We are very grateful to have found Troy. He really put us at ease. You miss your dog when they are gone that long and it helps to know they are in good hands.

Details: 2 - 10 years old • Small (16 - 25 lbs) • Board and train at a facility • Therapy or service dog training • Leash pulling • At the pro’s location

We had a great experience with Troy. We were a bit reluctant as he had never done anything like this. We had a puppy (Butter) and quickly realized with kids , cats, and a senior dog, we did not have the time or tools to keep this little girl from ruining us. From the get go Troy walked us through what the experience would be like and understood and discussed our concerns with us. We picked a day to drop her off and her journey began. We were updated and able to call or text with quick replies. We never felt rushed or like we asked something ridiculous. Butter is now not causing everyone in the house to pull their hair out. She is calm and with the correct direction that she and we learned is able to still be a puppy, but happily listen and allow us to normally live our lives again. She is potty trained, she calmly occupies herself on her "place". We were shown how to continue down this road with her to expand on her training. It is also very clear we can call with questions or concerns after the fact. We do have to do our part and will happily do so. We are grateful to have found Troy and will most likely do some more training with him in the future as Butter gets older.
