Introduction

Hi my name is Yousef Javier and I am a bassist, educator, and composer based out of Los Angeles. I received my Master of Music degree at California State University, Los Angeles, and am an Adjunct Music Professor at Folsom Lake College. Originally from the San Francisco Bay Area, I have performed with many groups including La Misa Negra (Afro-Colombian), Bang Data (Latin-Alternative), Conjunto Afroson (Salsa Dura), Lagos Roots Afrobeat Ensemble, Orchestra Gold (African Rock from Mali), and Barrio Manouche (Flamenco Fusion). I am versatile in a variety of styles and am happy to share my knowledge of technique, harmony, and musical perspective to students of the bass guitar. I look forward to sharing my love for music with a method that is both fun and rewarding!

I feel fortunate to have found Yousef. I finally picked up the bass, in my mid 40's. It's not easy for an old dog to learn a new trick, but thanks to Yousef, I've gotten very comfortable with the bass. Thanks to his patience, we worked through styles and techniques, and explored the various scales. I am very grateful to have found a teacher that is approachable and passionate about music.
