Introduction
Hi there! My name is Eric, and I am a composer, performer, and educator. I am a classically-trained composer who professionally scores for games and films. I am a classically trained pianist and vocalist who is versed in jazz, pop, and musical theatre styles. My immense teaching background includes: being the director of the Video Game Music Institute, where I train aspiring composers how to compose video game music, teaching accredited pop music courses at San Francisco State University, local and international music schools, and my own private studio. Students have studied with me worldwide, ranging from beginners to professionals and music students from the finest music schools, such as Berklee College of Music and New York University. MY TEACHING A dedicated and prolific educator with years of experience teaching music at the college level, I offer private instruction in piano, voice, and music theory/composition via Zoom. Working with students from beginners with no musical background to industry professionals, I love teaching students of all ages and levels. My lessons are progressive and structured, built upon customized curriculums to help students to efficiently achieve their musical goals. I provide a supportive and engaging approach towards learning the art and craft of music, instilling my students with a lifelong love of music. PIANO LESSONS I offer piano lessons for students of all ages and levels, from classical to pop to jazz. I studied Piano Performance under distinguished professor Victoria Neve at San Francisco State University, performing two major solo piano recitals. Alongside developing solid piano technique and fostering musicianship, I prioritize the understanding of music theory, helping my students gain fluency in the language of music. I incorporate the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) exam pieces into my teaching. By working through progressive study of scales, chords, and pieces, my students learn to develop healthy practice habits, leading to mastery of their repertoire. VOICE LESSONS. An experienced vocalist and songwriter who has performed classical, musical theatre, jazz, R&B, and pop genres, I offer vocal lessons for students who want to learn the fundamentals of singing. Students will understand how to engage their diaphragm and improve breath control, practice technical exercises such as scales and arpeggios that will strengthen their voice and expand their range, and improve their intonation. Being an experienced performer, I help students workshop their songs and prepare for performances. MUSIC THEORY TUTORING For students who want to read and understand classical, jazz, pop, musical theatre, or video game music styles, I offer music theory tutoring. I teach students how to read classical music scores and lead sheets in popular music genres. Students will gain fluency in the basics of notation and music rudiments, including rhythms, time/key signatures, scales and modes, intervals, chords, and basic analysis, progressing onto first-year college-level music theory, equivalent to AP Music Theory. I help students with ear training, enabling students to accurately hear patterns in music, and gain the fluency in chord symbols and harmony to be able to write their own music. Lessons are supplemented with workbook exercises to practice and reinforce the concepts discussed.

My son Jamie has been taking piano classes with Eric weekly for 3 years. He's made amazing progress, playing Mozart and Bethoven now. Eric is not just a great pianist; he is a gifted, devoted to his students' success, teacher, and his inspiration, technic, knowledge, and passion is passed on to his students. Music classes also helped my son get more organized and Eric is a role model for him in this sense as well.

Firstly, a flexible and earnest teacher. Not only an expert in music instruction, but also a great teacher in general. He's taught me a lot of musical concepts that renowned university teachers were struggling to connect me with. Tl;dr, the teacher I SHOULD'VE had in my school. Honestly would have failed without his help during homework and midterm/finals practices. Not to mention Eric's also passionate, chill, and overall nice. Some big things he helped me with include: - Various homework assignments. Including harmonizing Bach chorales. Made all of them so much less daunting to complete. - Helped me in a final project where I broke down a really avant' garde contemporary pop song. Said deep dive into the song enabled me to pick out the instrumentation, harmony, musical techniques, and an overall far better understanding of the song to complete my report. The problem I've had with learning music is that there's so many different genres and approaches into the learning field that operate differently. It can be pretty hard for that alone since I've been having a lot of teachers who don't quite fit with what music I'm learning. But the flexibility I mentioned at the start with Eric really shines through as he's been able to help me and my peculiar perspective. My big recommendation that he can totally help you out.
