P.S. I'm located in Long Beach. I host my lessons out of two locations - my home and a music store. I travel for a fee, and the price of that fee will be vary by distance. I don't do virtual lessons.
Do not contact me if this is less than ideal for you, or you are not serious
about taking lessons. Thank you.

Howdy
I’m Omar, I compose, write, and produce my own music and I’ve been a self taught musician for almost two decades now. I’ve always had a passion for music and recently I decided to make the leap and do what I love to do! prior to making this leap of faith, I was working as therapist with kids with autism for five years. I have a college education focused in Psychology and Music.
I started my journey as a musician at 13, upon stumbling onto “Smells Like Teen Spirit” by Nirvana on VH1. The song was a revelation to me, kind of like when man discovered fire, and ignited something in me which pushed me to pickup guitar. I’ve been on a non-stop journey of acquiring musical knowledge and skill ever since.
Shortly after I learned guitar, I moved on to bass, drums, piano and songwriting. I formed a few bands spanning through my teens and 20s. I began producing my own songs which then led me down the rabbit hole of music production. There is nothing more gratifying than hearing your creation come to life. I’m a nerd when it comes to music production - everything from crafting lyrics, melodies, and song arrangement to how altering your mic position by an inch can make or break the tonal quality of your guitar sound. Music production is all about the finer brush strokes painting the bigger picture and that’s what i love about it.
My roots are 90s rock based music, so i’m more keen to alternative music. I love listening to and playing shoegaze, indie, lofi, punk, post-punk, post-rock, old school reggae, funk/soul, motown, oldies, retro based pop/rock (60s-90s) and psychedelic rock. I have a pretty broad taste in music, and although alternative genres are my bread & butter, I can’t deny my love for a catchy pop melody, clever song arrangement/structure and flawless production quality. over the years I have developed an appreciation for a vast array of genres - both alternative and mainstream.
So that’s a little bit about me - I’m hoping my love for music comes across as palpable! With regards to musical knowledge and proficiency, I have a lot to give and I would love to pass that on. Learning an instrument and understanding music is a process of self discovery, it’s a unique journey for every individual - similar to life itself. I believe creation is innate in every human being. It’s the soul’s desire to express. So I believe every individual is capable of learning music and an instrument - like most skills, it just takes time, consistency and perseverance. The key difference from learning any other skill is learning to listen and that’s something I can help with…or maybe you just want to learn your favorite song, and that’s something I can help with too!
Your lessons will be tailored to your specific needs and goals. I understand that learning a new skill can be daunting, and overwhelming so we’ll move at a pace you feel comfortable with. The most important thing is that we have fun and find a new way to enrich your life!
I primarily teach beginner-intermediate level guitar, bass, vocals, and beginner drums and piano. I also teach music theory fundamentals, songwriting and arrangement, and music production (mixing, and recording on logic pro). I should expand on my music theory knowledge - It’s more of an intuitive knowledge. I have some experience reading sheet music and learning music theory fundamentals in college.
