Introduction
I teach English and martial arts at Las Positas College in Livermore, California. In terms of reading and writing, I teach reading comprehension strategies, essay mechanics (thesis statements, sentence structure, paragraph structure, MLA/APA), and critical thinking skills. For more advanced students, this may include literature analysis and rhetoric. In terms of martial arts, I teach Setchu Ryu Jujutsu, a blend of Japanese jujutsu (small joint manipulation, chokes, throws) and Filipino Martial Arts (knife, stick, and empty hand) with additional elements of Hawaiian Lua.

Raymond Park has exceptional skills in critical reading and writing skills. He is an excellent resource for help with a wide variety of English strategies. He has aided in the development of my essay writing abilities by strengthening my thesis statements (something I struggled with before working with Professor Park), paper organization, and overall giving incredibly valuable essay feedback. I was a student of his at Las Positas College, where he assigned and led valuable text-based group discussions with the class. Although I am now a UCSD graduate, the class I took with him encouraged me to continue seeking his feedback on school application essays and educational discussions. Overall, Raymond Park’s knowledge and teaching abilities have grated me skills that I continue to carry with me. I highly recommend his services for any and all your reading and writing needs.

I have trained with Ray on a number of different occasions. His broad knowledge of different art forms and the length of which he has studied makes him a great teacher. His attention to detail is shown through in his ability to convey form, technique, and strength needed to become a martial artist.

Ray is great at communicating the basics in a way that is easy to remember. Sometimes trying to learn basic martial arts/self-defense can be intimidating but Ray created a very comfortable environment.
