Introduction
Instructor's Bio: Choosing a swimming instructor for yourself or your family can be somewhat of a challenge. The fit between the instructor, the student(s), and parents is often just as important as the experience and quality of instruction. I work as a college professor during the academic year and return to my first love as a swimming instructor each summer. I am available to provide both group and private swimming lessons. I have extensive experience teaching everything from basic water safety to advanced stroke development. I have over 18 years of experience teaching both private and group swimming lessons and coaching swim teams. I am lifeguard, YMCA and Red Cross certified. I gained my teaching experience by working as both a lifeguard and swimming instructor at the La Canada Flintridge Country Club, the Rose Bowl Aquatic Center, the Crescenta-Canada YMCA and as a private instructor in the La Canada, La Crescenta, Pasadena, Arcadia, Altadena, Montrose, and Glendale areas. I feel that my extensive swimming instruction experience paired with my master's degree in communication make me uniquely qualified to provide engaging, effective swimming instruction. I hope to have the opportunity to work with you! Teaching Approach: I work hard to develop a positive, trusting relationship with all of the families I work with so that the students feel comfortable with me and can trust that I have their best interests at heart. I have found that a positive relationship paired with the experience I have and methods I use yield very effective results. I would love to develop a personalized swimming program for you and/or your family. Success Stories: One of the aspects of teaching swimming I enjoy the most is the relationships I develop with the families I work with. Several of the families I teach have been clients for several years, as I teach the oldest children to swim and down to the youngest. I count these lasting, positive relationships as some of my greatest successes. I have had the opportunity to take several non-swimmers and guide them to water safety and teach them to swim confidently. Being able to facilitate that process is truly amazing (for me as the instructor, for the students, and for the parents) and is one of the many reasons I return to teaching swimming summer after summer. Teaching swimming is particularly rewarding with students that are fearful or apprehensive. I have had several such students and the process of teaching these students to swim is where I have the opportunity to blend my master's degree in communication with my experience in swimming instruction to encourage student's success and confidence in the water.

Private Swim Lessons

A friend told me about Jenna’s lessons a couple of summers ago. I wanted to sign up with her immediately but her schedule was full for the summer. Last year I made sure to call early and was happy to be given a spot in her schedule. She’s great! I was a little hesitant about the cost of private lessons (compared to group lessons at the Rose Bowl Aquatic Center or other place) but the caring, individualized attention my kids got was really amazing. They learned so much so quickly that I really feel good about making the investment in private lessons. I was most concerned about water safety and Jenna got our kids to a level where I felt good about their safety in no time. I had spent much more time and money on group lessons and my kids did not progress anywhere close to as much as they did when they swam with Jenna. The lessons are truly designed around each child, considering what each one needs and how to best help them progress. Jenna’s amazing teaching style was apparent with both my kids but the little tweaks and modifications she put in to each of their lessons showed that she appreciated their unique personalities and learning styles. That is something I have never seen in a swimming instructor before. Because Jenna came to my home, I had friends and family around to watch some of the lessons. Everyone commented how good she is with kids and was amazed at the progress my kids made in a fairly short time. At first I was a little put off by her limited schedule but once I got lessons with her, I was glad she doesn’t take on too much. She gave us so much attention and I’m not sure she could do that stretched really thin. She told me that most of the families she works with are repeat clients or friends/family members of repeat clients so the space for new families is limited. But, give her a call, she may just have space! You will be amazed at how she teaches. It’s like a whole new swimming lesson experience. I am thrilled my friend told me about her. I cannot recommend Jenna enough.

Jenna has taught all 3 of my kids (now 7, 6 and 3) to swim and she is simply amazing. First off, she is THE nicest person ever. No exaggeration. But she also has had great results in getting my kids to swim-and much quicker than I expected even though they all were at different levels and different ages. Right now she is teaching my just turned 3 year old and he is already going underwater and doing dog paddle to the stairs in his 3rd lesson! My kids all adored her because she makes it fun and not scary. She is flexible with times and very dependable. By the way, I was a serious competitive swimmer so I know a thing or two in the pool but I wouldn't trust anyone but Jenna to teach my kids.

My son needed to prepare for his Jr. Guard test. Jenna was great, super knowledgable and a pleasure to deal with on every level. We couldn't have asked for more!
