FAQs
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I conduct a Placement Test to help determine your current level of English fluency and understand your wants and needs. We have to know both where you are and where you want to be to create a lesson plan to reach your goals. This is at no charge.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
While in my third year of university, I was called up to military service. Because I was preparing for a career in education, I was trained to design curriculum and teach. One of my strongest assets is an understanding of the adult learner. While I was within three semesters of completing my degree, I spent the next nearly 12 years attending classes on nights and weekends, while raising a family and working full-time. At age thirty, I found myself working in South America. Prior to this, I spoke no Spanish. I have an understanding of and empathy for those who are trying to acquire a foreign language, as an adult. I know what it is like to have the thoughts and ideas of a 30-year old, but the speaking ability of a 3-year old! After leaving the US Air Force, I spent six years contracting to the NASA (American space agency) and three years as a civilian contractor to the US Navy. All of these positions included a significant amount of curriculum design and teaching.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I taught ESL for nearly 20 years, beginning as a curriculum designer and teacher of English as a Second Language, Computer Systems and Electronics, and Photography.
